I am a strong believer in Jesus. I am a Christian. I love God with all my heart. I noticed my cousins were wiccan because I saw the chain on their neck with the symbol. I asked one of my cousin if she was satanist because I thought thats what the symbol was and she said no she was wiccan. I don't know what to do think. I wonder if she hates me because I'm Christian. I know I should ask her all this but I want to know from some other people's point of view. To me wiccan seems like worshipping satan, casting spells, and doing voodoo on people. It makes me feel odd around them sometimes. I don't know what to think. Help?

most wiccans are very tolerant people who will not think any less of you for your beliefs as long as you don't force them on anyone.

and no, wiccans don't worship satan, especially considering they don't believe in satan. neither do they do voodoo. that goes against the rede. some cast spells, but not all do.

what wicca really comes down to is a nature-based religion that honors and reveres and celebrates nature.

Satanists frquently use a point down pentagram. Wiccans most commonly use a point up pentagram. Other groups may use either. All can have different meanings. Just because two groups use similar symbols does not mean they believe the same things.

Wiccans worship non-Christian gods, but not Satan, who they do not believe exists. Voodoo is another religion entire and has nothing to do with Wicca. (and is often misunderstood.) Wicca is a religion. While many Wiccans do spellcraft, they are not one in the same. (I could also state that many Wiccans ride bicycles. That doesn't mean bicycles are a part of Wicca.) Wiccans are generally not against any other religious group, although they sometimes get defensive around Christians because certain Christians keep coming up with unfounded theories about them.

First off, examine the feelings you have. Did they start before you knew they were Wiccan or after. I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate it was after. The odd feeling you have is more than likely from what you think you know about what your cousin practices rather than what you actually do know. This is common, a lot of folks have knee-jerk reactions to what the media, uninformed and misguided people think they know about Wicca. As my father used to tell me, you'll never know the truth about something if you don't look for it.

Wicca is a nature-centric religion based around embracing the fact that man is a part of nature, not separate from it, or the Divine. We as Wiccans come to learn and accept that we have the potential for great good as well as wrong and that it is OUR choice to do it. Nope, no Satan, we do not give power to that, according to our belief, made-up bogey man.

Casting spells is so small a part of what it is to be Wicca, just as praying is only a small part of what it means to be a Christian, having been one, I can make the connection between the similarities.

As has been said, Wicca is not Vudon, Voodoo, that is a separate Pagan path with it's own rules.

One of the things most, I say most because like any religion we have those who can't let go of old hurts, real or imagined, most Pagans have adopted a live and let live philosophy, you don't bother us, we don't bother you. One should not take this to mean that we are pacifists, Wiccans who think we are clearly do not understand what the Rede means. We are peaceful unless aroused to anger.

Learn more about Wicca from an impartial source as well as being willing to talked respectfully to your cousin about it.

First of all, Wiccan people are accepting in all religions. We don't shame God or Jesus, we respect everyone's opinions, so your cousins don't hate you for being Christian. I'm Wiccan and most of my friends are Christian.

Wiccans don't worship Satan. Satan doesn't exist in our eyes. So, how can we worship something we don't believe in? Wiccans are purely nature loving. We worship Mother Nature and all of the Gods and Goddesses that the individual Wiccan believes in. Wiccans don't believe in all the same gods and goddesses, we believe that there's a lot more than one, but we all don't believe in the same ones.

I can't say that Wiccans don't do voodoo, some do, but it's ironic that if they do do voodoo then they aren't real Wiccans. The two main rules in Wicca are 'What ever we do comes back at us three fold' and 'Do what you want but harm none'. In the second rule there's a sub category: 'Holding people against their own will.' this rule can be violated by acting apon voodoo.

Casting spells... Wiccans are famous for their spell work and their healing skills. The spell work that we cast comes with responsibility. This responsibility includes the act of not holding someone against their own will. So, we cannot perform love spells or any other type of spell work if it interferes with someone else's own will. Another rule for spell casting is you cannot cast a spell on someone without their permission.

So, there's nothing to be afraid of if your cousins are true Wiccans. If you're scared or nervous about them, then I'd talk to them, get to know that they're doing in terms of Voodoo, spells, ext. Most likely, they don't want to harm anybody, but rather make this world better for all people to live in.

If the symbol you refer to them wearing was a 5 point star then that was a pentacle or a pentagram and it is not a symbol of satanism it actually represents the 4 elements(earth, air, fire, water) and the spirit. Now to answer your other question...Most Wiccans are fine with Christians who openly accept them and don't view them as sinning damned to hell heathens who worship satan( we get that alot from Christians) Wicca is a nature based religion and yes some Wiccans do cast spells, however that doesn't mean we are going around hexing people. Our spells are like ritual prayers that we enact. Wiccans also live by the Wiccan Rede "an it harm none, do what ye will" and we live by the law of three "Mind the 3 fold law ye should, 3 times bad and 3 times good." What this means is we do what we please as long as our actions do not cause harm. Also the law of 3 means what ever we send out comes back on us 3 fold. So if we are good, 3 times as much good karma will eventually makes its way back to us and if we are bad then 3 times as much bad karma will find its' way into our lives. This is the best way I know how to explain to someone who is not familiar with it so I hope this little bit of info helps but the best advice I can give you is talk to your cousin directly because everyone has different views

We, Wiccans, don't acknowledge satan, that's a Christian thing. We do not hate Christians either, usually it's the other way around. I don't know how well versed your cousin is in the Craft but, yes some do incorporate spell work into their practice. The main rule in Wicca is HARM NONE. Voodoo is another type of practice. Wicca is mainly for protection, healing, etc. of yourself but, mainly others and the earth. The best thing you can do is talk to you cousin and get HER side of things. You knew her before you knew she was a witch, what did you think of her then? Why has that changed? She IS still the same person she was.

You have got it all wrong sweety, and your cousin will definately not hate you for your questions or because your christian. We are very tolerant to other religions. Ask her what you want to know, just please don't try to convert her, or try to pretend that your religion is the only/right one, those things are insulting to us wiccans/witches. We don't believe in Satan, he was thought up by early christians. We do believe in gods and goddesses, we do magick, but some don't, it is a personal choice, but as said before, doing spells is like praying in essence. Voodoo is a different pagan path. Just remember, they are still your cousins, the same people they have always been, try and be a little more religiously tolerant, it makes for good family and human relations.

Wicca has nothing to do with Satan. Satanism is entirely different, and Wiccans don't usually even believe in Satan. Voodoo is also a different religion.

It's doubtful she would hate you for being Christian. In fact, unless you are purposely disrespectful about their religion, there is no reason to be.

Here are some links with some general information about Wicca. They won't try to convert you, or anything like that; it's just some information.

I'll assume by 'symbol' that you mean the pentagram. In the past it was actually used by Christians to symbolize the 5 wounds of Christ . . . anyway, Wiccans don't worship the devil. We don't even believe that he exists. The first thing you should do is find out exactly what Wiccans believe. There are several excellant articles about that at www.religioustolerance.org
Next I suggest that you talk with your cousin and see which branch of Wicca she adheres to. There are several, including Gardnerian and Dianic. (Baptist is to Christian as Dianic Wiccan is to Wiccan for example) Don't be afraid to ask questions, just be very non-threatening when you do so. Do not try to witness to her, as you'll just get on her nerves.
As for my own pagan perspective on Christians, I have no problem with that. My three best friends are Catholic, Baptist, and ( believe it or not) Born-Again. I have no bad feelings towards Christianity whatsoever. I actually encourage faith in my peers.

The funny thing about all this is Voodoo and Satan are both primarily Christian constructs.

Wiccans are far more tolerant of Christians than Christians are of Wiccans. Sad, but true.

Ask your cousins, they will gladly share information with you. Just don't sit there going "Uh huh" and "I see" then try to tell them they will burn in hell. We hear that enough. However, since Hell doesn't really exist for us, we aren't too worried overall.
