A ju-jitsu uniform usually has slightly shorter sleeves that just come down past the elbow and don't have to be rolled up. Also the top or coat is not as long and does not come down to the thighs like a judo gi does and the pants have an extra layer of material sewn into the knee so they don't wear out and it also offers a little extra padding for the knee. Ju-jitsu gis also are designed and sized so there is not a lot of extra material for grabbing and tugging or pulling on.

Some schools use the same gi, and some companies market the exact same gi for both styles. But, basically a Judo gi has always been much heavier and baggier in fit. This is because in Judo, the same as Jujitsu, you are going to be clenching the material for a good portion of each class for throws.

Jujitsu has become a lot more popular after the Gracie's came to America and started doing exhibitions. An industry has sprouted up to serve that interest, so now you can find Jujitsu specific uniforms just about any place where they sell martial arts equipment. They tend to be lighter and little more fit than the old Judo gi.

I workout with a Judo coach 2 times a month for Gi takedowns to supplement my BJJ training. THis is strictly for sport purposes. If athletic excellence is what you seek then you have to go with guys who train like athletes. Of course aspects of each game are easily adapted to reality. The concern about the shorter person is not really an issue. There are reaps and trips to accomodate physiological differences. If you are speking more about the wristlock throws of jujitsu and that type of thing then I can't help you there. I never bothered with it, but I did get a submission in a match once from a cheesy old wristlock. Couln't believe it worked and neither could anybody else, that dude caught hell from the guys at his club. Judo or BJJ is adapative to any size of person so that shouldn't be a concern.
