Last night I saw for the first time the movie Apocalipto and I couldn't help but think of all those christians--and all believers for that matter--who believe in their god. Is there any difference between the Mayans and their gods and the believers today. Your thoughts?

Joan,
but if you add up all the blood spilled in the name of christianity, it probably adds up to many times more than all the blood spilled by the Mayan sacrificies.

No there is no difference. In thousands of years Christian beliefs will seem the same to people as the Mayan beliefs seem to us now. Christians did not invent religion- religion has been changing for thousands of years and will continue to evolve. Unfortunately I don't think religion will ever become obsolete, but it will continue to change

Christians vs Mayans. The Mayans did a lot of human sacrificing to their gods. But they made a great calendar. Christians believe in a bloodless sacrifice and they started our modern day calendar.

a thin layer of civilization, but look at Europe when the christians were in control. Heresy trials, inquisition, crusades, the list goes on.
