Would I need one? I have braces, so I was wondering if I did. This is the first sport I will be in since I got my braces.

I heard that in the Martial Arts, its an illegal move to hit someone in the face, so I'm guessing its a no. But I'd like a confirmation of the correct answer, so I came here. Its probably different for the different arts, or something.

Definitely! 100%!!! You want to protect your mouth it don't matter what kind of martial arts your in, you might not need it when your stretching but when it comes to sparring mouth guard will be your best friend not unless if you don't want your teeth to be straight.

Oh and you heard wrong about illegal moves because in martial arts its a big i mean BIG point when you hit face....

I thought it was hard being in martial arts but i got more harder when i got my braces....

YES! I wore braces as a child for five years-not the comfortable plastic ones like you now have; they were wire and metal. In judo we were required to wear a mouth piece and I was glad that I did on several occasions. Later in karate I always wore a mouth piece when sparring and am glad that I did there as well. Accidents should be infrequent but do happen and people do get hit or kicked on occasion in the mouth. A mouthpiece will help to minimize the damage if you do get hit or kicked and help to keep undoing the expense and trouble that you and/or your parents have gone through up to this point.

Absolutely. Century MAS carries a mouthpiece from ShockDr that is designed for people with braces. You should definitely have a mouthpiece. Just becuase it would be illegal (sometimes) to make contact to the face doesn't mean it won't happen.

In TKD, the head contact rule we use (and is used in the Olympics) is anything in front of the ears is legal, meaning the face is a legal target. With a kick, that is. Not that the face should be intentially targeted, because lots of tournaments will have a blood rule that will disqualify you if you draw blood on someone else.

get the mouth guards that are made for people with braces. Also, try to find the boil and bite kind because when you have braces your teeth will move so you can re-mold your mouth guard and you wouldn't need to buy one again

Accidents happen. You can save your dental work but you can also help to avoid concussions with a good mouth guard. I would probably spar without a cup before leaving a mouth guard behind.

I think the rules vary depending on the tournament. If you're going to classes they may require you have one for liability reasons even if you're not supposed to strike the face. My advice would be to buy one anyway because, with braces, if you get hit in the mouth it could rip the insides of your lips to shreds.

YES GET A MOUTH GUARD. I had braces and i was in soccer I had to protect my mouth. You will be able to get a mouth guard at any sports store. In sparring you need to get a mouth guard.
