If his Tech School is longer than 26 weeks, his orders will move you and your households good to his Tech School.

Most AF Tech Schools are shorter than 26 weeks (90%)

You can move to where he is going to Tech School on your own , at your expense and get an apartment off Base.

But you need to know, that for the first 30 days he is at Tech School, he will be confined to Base.

After 30 days, he can apply to his commander to live off base with you.

Notice I said apply, it is not guarenteed.

His commander will base his decision on your husbands School grades, PT score and inspection and military bearing record.

IE: if he is struggling in school or on PT, forget it.

How will it work if you don't go ?

You will stay where you are currently living, untill he graduates Tech School.

He will be paid a housing rate ( BAH ) starting in basic.

After he graduates Tech School, you will be on his orders to his first permanent assignment.

The Air Force will then pay to move your family and household stuff to his new base.

Note that you are not guarenteed on base housing at his new duty station. Some bases have waiting list up to 6 months to get housing on base.

In that case, you would have to get an apartment off base.

When your husband goes to his technical training school, you and your child will not be allowed to stay with him. Men and women cannot stay with each other and are divided among dormitory units. Families are not allowed, and you husband cannot live off post.

You can find an apartment or get a hotel room for you and your child while your husband is in school, but sometimes airmen have to go to more than just one tech. school, and location varies from one to the other-so moving around with him is a waste of your time. If you are a civilian right now (not holding an ID or have no command sponsorship with the military) you cannot even go onto base unless you are escorted around base. At the end of the day you must leave.

Wait until he is done with his tech. school and has a duty assignment, then you can join him after finishes the appropriate paperwork and adds you and your child to his DEERS.

If you do visit for just a while, remember-there is a curfew, so your time is limited.

Ifhis Tech school is longer than 6 months then you will receive orders and you will be allowed to move. Almost all Tech schools are shorter than 6 months though. If you decide to move on your own, the AF will not pay for it. You will stop receiving BAH and you will have to pay out of poclet fr all your moving expenses. He will have very little time to see, they go though different phases and they only receive off-base priveleges in the laterpart of thier schooling. at This is the time he needs to study and get prepared for his job. I know is difficult being apart. My son was 9 months old when my husband left for Basic and he turned 22 months old when he got home from Tech School. I did not move to be with him for Tech School. Believe me, this will be nothing compared to the deployments!
Just wait for him to finish Tech. he will be able to come home after that to hep you get ready for the move. The packers will come pack all your stuff and you'll be on your way to your new base.

My best answer is, it depends on where the school is located and what it is for (subject). It is possible that you can follow and live nearby, even if he is required to live on base. Ask some questions!

ONLY if his school is longer than 6 months long. otherwise you will not get permission to join him and he will not be allowed to live with you.
