Sorry to hear your dog was picked up.

It is ...a little better than the results I see along the road - if you know what I mean.

Anyway - pounds are busy and they may say your dog is NOT there when in fact it is. I recommend you take the time to go to each one.

Different species, but did anyone hear about the guy with the African Grey. He got out. Called the pound often, they kept saying they hadn't picked up a bird.
Found out a month or two later the bird had been adopted out by the animal shelter he kept calling to another lady.

Anyway - I am not sure if he ever won the case... I found a few links where people put the info on the websites.

All that to say - Definitely go to the shelters to check.

If the dog was loose then it's just a matter of picking it up.. (call them and figure out which pound/shelter got him.. ) If it bit someone, they will quarentine it.. and check for signs of aggresion..

Now, depending on the laws where you are you could be fined for having a loose dog.. or a dangerous dog..

Now, once again depending on where you live.. there are some places that have bans on certain breeds (don't get me started on how much I detest that breed profiling).. If that is the reason they picked up the dog (meaning it wasn't loose) they should have left some kind of paper with information about how to contact them.. In case you know someone outside the district who can take the dog.. (or are willing to move)

The only other reason I can think of is a severe case of neglect or abuse, once again they would have to leave some kind of information on how to contact them... to give a case as to why you should be given the dog back.. (if they can prove that you or your family abused or neglected the animal you'd be lucky to avoid a ticket or jail time however)

Do you mean your dog was running around the neighborhood and the Humane Officers picked him up or after the officers picked him up took him to the pound until you came and got him someone adopted him? Your question is not truly clear.

If you are saying the first, then shame on you. Your dog needs to be on a leash at all time when outside your fenced area.

If it is the later, did you wait to long to try and get him out? Then again, shame on you.

I understand your postition, and I think anyone in that kind of situation would have reason to feel just the same. Though I guess it also depends, what was your dog pounded off for? If it wasn't something bad enough, then your first task should be to confront that. When your done in doing that and have taken control of your emotions for the time being, you should next find out what you have to do to get your dog out. I wish you luck in this situation of yours.

Call ALL the pounds in your area (they are usually called Animal Services).
Do it, or have a family member do it before your dog is put down - many shelters cannot keep all the dogs they impound for very long.

Please get on it!!!!

You need to find out which pound the dog is held at and then collect your dog...

Do you mean your dog was running loose and the dog catcher got him or what? B/c if that is the case you can go and pick him up.

I'm not trying to sound harsh but if he got picked up was it because he escaped or did he bolt out the door?I recommend you try all the shelters and get him back.Make sure he doesn't get picked up again!!!Having animals is a big responsibility.
