The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. (Luke 4:18)

And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:23,24)

He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:25)

Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:16-22)

It's hard to say what "hating this life" means on the level of praxis. Yes we are to be "in but not of the world," but I think the key is to not create any doctrines about what that actually looks like. As we abide in Christ and the Holy Spirit is more and more our guide, not the spirit of this world, we will be lead into various situations where we are to renounce the world and declare the Kingdom of God. However, these situations are embedded in the context of our lives. So it's not like we can ever say, "Hating this life means doing X, Y, Z." Or being a "true believer" means you will not own a fancy house. Those types of prescriptive statements actually hinder the furthering of the Kingdom. Jesus said "the son of man has nowhere to lay his head," but He also said He came to give us joy, and joy more abundantly.

In sum, I believe the key to being a "true believer" is to receive Christ as our Savior, God as our Father, and the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and informer. If we do that, we will naturally hate this life, because we will be in love with the true Giver of life, our most High God. And in that love, we will act as true believers and preach the other world, which is way more awesome and amazing than this world could be! God bless.

Yes.

What is your point? We are not to literally hate this life. Joy is a fruit of the spirit!

Jesus also said that a person should hate his parents. It is not meant to be taken literally. It is hyperbole used for teaching purposes. You need to understand the culture there in the first century. What Jesus is saying is that we love GOD so much, that our relationship with our parents would be "hate" by comparison. We love GOD's Kingdom so much that we "hate" our present lives by comparison.

If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14.26

What is your question?
All these verses mean is that Christians are supposed to live the "Great Commandments" which are: Love God and Love people. If you live for other people, and have love for other people, you will receive reward in heaven.
