What your talking about is Indie Rock/Garage Rock. Only a handful of white guys have been able to pull off blues and I guarantee the White Stripes aren't one of them.

This is only my opinion, but the "blues" that I like is "British Blues revival" stuff from about 67 - 71. You have the band leaders like John Mayall and Alexis Korner, who encouraged younger players to step up and let rip ie Eric Clapton (gtr), Jack Bruce (b), Jon Hiseman (d), Peter Green (gtr), Dick Heckstall-Smith (sax), Mick Fleetwood (d). Alexis Korner encouraged people like Mick Jagger, Robert Plant etc.
Canned Heat are an excellent American blues revival band from the same era. I would think that their album "HOOKER 'N' HEAT" with John Lee Hooker would be a blast!!

Early Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown, Bloodwyn Pig, Led Zeppelin (heaviest blues band ever, imho) for some of the older stuff). Newer stuff: Black Crowes, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Johnny Lang, and just about anybody on 1.FM Blues internet radio. I answered another one of your questions - I play blues rock guitar - my favorite!
