I always wonder that as well... OR people who are vocal and on a ferocious rampage as animal rights activists, get more torn and emotional if someone kills or mistreats a dog than they do if someone sucks their offspring out of their uterus tearing it limb to limb and tosses it in the trash can like an empty candy wrapper.
Things that make you wonder...
Have a great one! =)

It's a matter of reason.
An embryo may have 100 cells. A fly brain has 100,000. Early term abortion is the end of a human potential life, in the same way that masturbation is the end of 13 million sperm lives, or ovulation is the destruction of an egg that has the potential to form a human being. There is no significant difference between an egg and sperm prior to fertilization and a newly fertilized egg. To treat this potential as if it was a child seems very faulty, especially when a woman's life is at stake. Later on in a pregnancy, of course, there is true gray territory. I would never impose my views on someone else. I think abortion should be a legal procedure.
Also consider an embryo used for human research: A human being is not "murdered" by this research. The cells are simply cultured to grow into other cells, so nothing actually "dies," only the end of a potential. But by ignoring helpful medical research, you could argue that pro-lifers are indirectly causing death and injury to the millions who could benefit from treatment of now incurable disease.
But then take the death penalty: Murder of a sentient, thinking human being with billions of cells and the complexity to feel emotions, pain, and sorrow.
It is not hard to see the difference, unless you rely on a religious perspective that says the goop in a petri dish is more important than the man in the cell next door.

I am against the death penalty because there are people on death row who have been proven innocent. There are people there who ''need killing'' but the rules have to apply to everyone.
No one is ''for'' abortion. I do not believe that the government has the right to tell anyone what they can do to their own body and their own life. I personally don't like the idea of abortion. It should be allowed only within the first 3 months or within a time period that would be determined by research to be within the stage that a fetus can be aware of pain.
These are not very articulate answers but I am always sleepy at this time of night...waiting for the meds to kick in.

The Pro Abortion people believe that the abortion issue is really about power. I was surprised to read that in the newspaper a few years back, FROM a pro abortion leader. Coincidentally, being against the death penalty, which is a time-honored law, is also a bid for power.
How 'bout that?

You got it wrong. It's about freedom, it's about the government not butting in to our lives and having the power to live your life. There is no such thing as pro-abortion. There is such a thing as pro-choice though. And as far killing people because they killed someone else...How does that make it right? Would you feel better becoming a murderer yourself if someone close to you was murdered? Doubtful. It isn't worth it. And a woman's body is a woman's body, not the government's. A woman should have a right to keep her medical issues out of the hands of other people;, especially the government. If it is absolutely neccessary to have an abortion, then a woman should be able to make that decision and have safe surgical options. What I would like to know is those people that are the opposite. Pro death penalty and anti-abortion? The death penalty is killing? How is that right religious or otherwise?

Same reason why people who are for the death penalty are against abortion.

Because they don't know what the hell they're thinking. I think you should be able to give the death penalty to people who have murdered and raped. I'd NEVER have an abortion but I think it's your own choice on abortion. If you ban abortion they're gonna start using coat hangers and stuff like they used to. You might as well make sure the women are safe.

After asking my professor this same question she said, it's because abortion has to do with a woman's right. A lot of women make the mistake of getting pregnant (we've all made mistakes) why then shouldn't she be allowed to decide if she wants to pursue the motherhood or not. A woman should have the right to her body.
On the other hand
killing a person whether he's murdered an entire family gives no human right the right to take his life legally. How can the system be against murderers but yet condon murder to a person who supposedly "deserves it" It's a human life we're taking while the woman who is aborting is aborting a fetus who hasn't developed emotions the way we do after we're born

I doubt if that could be the general consensus .I really think without a poll to back it up that it only stands to reason most people against death are against the death penalty as well as the killing of fetal babies as well in most cases .some do however believe in leaving the responcibility up to the doctor and patient to cover extenuating circumstances such as the life of the mother being in danger or in a rape case . apples and oranges are not the same thing even though they both supply vitamin "C".

I think the death penalty is an easy out for someone who has committed a terrible crime. I say let them suffer in a cell. Personally, I think comping the death penalty for a human being and abortion for a fetus is like comparing apples and oranges. They are not the same things. A fetus is not a person--it's a collection of cells.

Well, I'm not necessarily FOR abortion. More like, I'd rather see it legal and keep it safe for helpless girls who will have them anyway. I don't condone it, and I will never have one. It's murder, period. But it's having to choose between the lesser of two evils, I suppose. Having been an unwed pregnant woman, I feel for the women who feel that they have to choose. But I don't like it either.
But I don't like the death penalty either. I think there has GOT to be a better way.
