My gandmother and my dad both used to enjoy a wake-up cuppa, for well over 12years. I made tea for them EVERY morning for those 12 or so years, so I regard myself pretty adept at making a fine cuppa.
Do NOT use teabags is my GOLDEN rule; tea bags are designed for lazy, insensitive people who put no care into making a fine cuppa.
1. Run COLD tapped water to your kettle,..*it tastes MUCH better this way, trust me! Bring to the boil,..
2. Rinse out teapot with BOILING hot water, this not only sterilises the pot, (keeping the flavours pure), but also of course makes it warm for the impending brew, do this IMMEDIATELY before adding tea-leaves, pot should be as hot as possible before you make the tea.
3. Quickly, but carefully add 1 slightly heaped teaspoon of tea per cup to the pot,.. 3 cups of tea, add 3 slightly heaped teaspoons, etc etc :)
4. Add boiling hot water to teapot, stir with CLEAN metal sppon for appx 5seconds, put lid on, followed by tea-cozy if you have one; if not a carefully placed cloth will suffice.
5. Wait appx 5-7mins to allow tea-leaves to brew, lift lid of teapot, stir once briskly again, close lid then pour into WARM cup, *good to use some of the left-over boiled water to warm the cup with; leaving room for milk.
6. Add COLD milk,.. (note; NEVER add milk BEFORE pouring,. it 'slows down' the heat aspect of the tea and destroys the flavours).
7. Add sugar to taste,.. (ie as he requests)
That's it, you have just made a FANTASTIC cup of tea! He'll notice it too,.. you'll do wisely to listen to this advice. :) Hope you have a good time, enjoy your future cuppas :).

Believe me most people in The UK don't make a proper cup of tea, however I will tell you anyway. You need a bone china tea pot and cups. Pour some boiling water into the teapot to heat it up, pour out then add the tea leaves. If you are making tea for 2 then you put 2 teaspoons of tea in the pot + 1 for the pot ( you always put 1 more teaspoon of tea leaves than the amount of people ).Add boiling water, this must be done immediately the water boils. Stir and stand for a few minutes. Pour cold milk into the cups then pour in the tea and enjoy.

The English make it in a teapot usually. With the tea bags use one bag for each person who is having the tea and one for the pot. The same goes if you are using tea leaves. Some English folk have a habit of the amount of times you stir before letting the tea steep.
You should always pour relatively slowly and if you have used tea leaves make sure you use a strainer.
Some like milk and sugar, some like lemon and honey. You'll just have to ask. And they love biscuits. Or you could always get some scones, jam and honey for a traditional Devonshire Tea.
Hope this has been helpful

If u want a full pot, take 3 good english tea bags and put them in your tea pot, which has a tiny bit of hot water in it. Then fill your kettle with cold water, put it on. When it has finished pour it in the pot and leave it for a good 5mins with the tea cosy on. Pour into cups, if he wants milk, put it in first, if he wants sugar, put it is after. Serve up and enjoy

Buy some Earl Grey tea and a teapot and tea cups. Then wait for him to arrive. Ask him. He will know. You should also have some milk on hand. English put milk and sugar into their tea. He will appreciate your thoughtfulness. You should also have some biscuits (cookies) to go along with the tea.

Before you start to make tea - you ought to ask whether your gentleman friend actually likes and drinks tea. Its a common mistaken myth that we all do - I detest tea and drink only coffee.

US Lady, have a look at a couple of tea sites, Dilma, which is in Sri Lanka - that is where all your tea is from, also Liptons
good luck, and I am sure that whatever you do will be much appreciated by your English gent
