My friend and I stayed in NYC for 6 days over New years eve and we still didnt even get to see Central park..
Just going to the Natural history museum took a whole day!! NYC is just HUGE and it takes ages to get anywhere as the blocks are soo big. We tried walking and it took us 30min to walk 3 blocks (we had planned to walk to Time Square from 123rd street or so.. What a joke)
Its such a beautiful giant city that you will definitely want to spend as much time as you can there. Remember the lines to see the 'hot spots' are long and you may spend most of your trip to NYC in lines...
Dont forget to shop shop shop. We found a great shop (near the world trade site) that was a few stories high and full of discounted designer ware. Cant remember what it was called but we spent hours (and $$$$) in this store..
Having come all the way from New Zealand I wish we had more time there although we got to see heaps of the US in 4 weeks.. Great country, I cant wait to go back for another visit...

NYC is a big city. It depends on how much and what you want to see and what you want to see, for your first time in the Big Apple.
Make a list and narrow it down when you arrive, in case you don't have time to do everything.

I did 3 nights and it wasnt enough..I'd say at least 4 nights, but ya can easily spend 6 or 7 nights if you want to see most or all of the boroughs.

at least a week.. trust me there are so many things to see and we have weird weather so a week would be perfect incase 2 days rain or something
