While a little more information might help us give a better answer, I'll attempt with this information. If you are wanting to record from your cable box to your DVD recorder then you need cables running from the cable box to the DVD recorder, I would recommend an s video or component video cable with a stereo audio connection as well. However, remember you will also need to connect your DVD recorder to the TV and surround sound system. I would recommend an HDMI connection if available if not then a component video cable to the TV and a digital audio cable to the surround sound system. If you are not getting picture or sound flip through the inputs on the TV and the surround sound system. This is a start also consult your owners manuals some of them have decent connection diagrams that can help you if you get lost.
