My parakeet is acting weird. He's sitting on one perch he's been there for about 3 hours and there's one dropping stuck to his vent feathers. I put seed in my hand and he ate it with one foot on my hand like he usually does. PLEASE HELP!!! I covered his cage for the night. What can I do?

He ate the normal stuff that he eats everyday. I gave him a little bit of millet and he was eating normaly. Nothing bad happened today as far as I know. My friend visited but she was very gentle and he was fine even after he left. I'll add more tommorow.

I really don't know if it's egg bound because I was told it was a boy and it has not been exposed to another bird.

Today, Kiwi seems much better he's chirping and jumping randomly around the cage. I'm still keeping him warm.

I would put some heat on him. A light bulb near the perch where he is. He can get closer or farther away, as he needs.

What has changed lately? What did he eat today? Was he out of the cage today???
Think through the entire day from morning til night. Were there any visitors today???

We cannot help you from your description. You will have to thoroughly figure what happened today. That he ate from your hand is a good sign.

Please let us know how he is tomorrow.

Well it seems like your Parakeet may just be egg bound. Sorry to say. I would keep him/her warm and make an appointment with a Vet as soon as you can get her/him in. If you feel that this is an emergency than just get animal medical help immediately and do not pay as much attention to Yahoo Answers. You should be with your bird, or at the Vet's. How old is your Parakeet and has s/he ever shown this behavior before? Just keep us posted. We all care about your Parakeet. I am a huge animal lover and I hope that you Parakeet is okay. And Im sure that everything is ok. Keep up post!

Please get the bird to a vet that specializes in bird medicine. A dog and cat doctor does not have enough training in birds and will stumble around blindly trying to figure out what's wrong and the bird will probably die in the process. Birds have evolved to hide their illnesses in the wild to protect them from predators. By the time a bird shows signs of being ill, it may already be too late.

It may be egg bound. Take it to your vet. the females offen do get egg bound for no apparent reason, but it can kill them.
