I have a 17 year old cat that has been diagnosed with cancer (fibrosarcoma). The tumor is on the upper jaw left side. It has progressed to the point where surgery is not an option. The vet has said the only possible treatment is steroids, which we have been giving him. We are also trying some herbal remedies (IP6 and Maitake Mushroom) to help slow the growth of the tumor.

He has developed nose bleeds from the expanding tumor. Those we have managed to control. But tonight he has begun to bleed from the mouth. Is there anyway to stop the bleeding from the mouth?

He is still active and able to eat on his own. He is not indicating he is in pain either.

I just lost my 17 - year - old cat,Jet to the same nasty cancer in June. She had gotten to the point where it was too painful for her to eat,and she was down to about 4 lbs.She was bleeding from the mouth, too.I don't know what you could do to stop it;I would just wait until Jet's stopped on it's own.It was awful, though.I was going to have her put down on a Monday, and on Sunday night, she tried to eat a little, and aspirated the food and choked to death.I think the tumor ate through to her trachea.I don't know what to tell you,but I just wanted to share my experience with this horrible cancer.Bless you and your cat.

First thing is first, I agree with Elaine and her suggestions. I also could not help but notice that you had said she had a fish hook stuck in her mouth at one point. Now I am assuming (because you did not state that it was taken out, just the fact the vet looked) that it is still caught up in her mouth. I would suggest take her into the vet as soon as you can (if you are poor call around to see if anyone can take payments. I just had to do that for my cat today). If the hook is still there then (even though no sign before) could now be getting infected and causing more discomfort and the possible bleeding that you see. Until you can take her to the vet I would suggest to watch how she eats. If she is eating funny it could be a broken canine (like Elaine had said) or what I had said. Yes worms will cause an animal to eat less and drink more water but if she is still losing weight a few days after giving her the meds then it will also be caused by the discomfort that she feels from her mouth.

I doubt you can stop the bleeding because it is coming from inside his mouth where the tumor is. Cancers are richly supplied with blood vessels.

Talk to your vet. Possibly he could ligate a blood vessel supplying the tumor or think of something else to control the bleeding

The only thing I can recommend would be to contact your veterinarian for advise. It could be a serious complication and using home remedies may not help or may worsen the symptom.

Hello?!? Take the cat to the vet!! They can probably give him a coagulant or at least put the thing to sleep so it doesn't suffer! Jeez...
