The hole in the lock works only when you have the key. You have to turn it beyond the "acc." position with the wire in the hole to remove the lock cylinder.
The entire ignition switch with a new key is not very expensive (about the price of a locksmith). To remove the switch from the dash, you would:
1. disconnect the battery
2. take the nut off the terminal on the back of the switch
3. unplug the large plug on the switch
4. unscrew the bevel from the front of the lock.(The chrome bevel has three slots in it that you can "gently" nudge with a screwdriver in the counter-clockwise direction until it is loose enough to turn by hand.)
5. the lock should come out easily from the back.
Once you have a new switch, then you still need keys for the door.
A secret, that nobody but old farts and car thieves know, is that there were surprising few different keys for Fords in this era. Somebody you know may have an old Ford key that works. These were the shorter double-sided keys, not like the late seventies or eighties. The new switch will probably have one of the longer keys.
Old Fart Ford Racer, who might have taken a few Fords for joy rides (I have no recollection of that matter, Senator.)

aaahhh yes the classic awesome galaxie 500. The first thing you can do is sell it to me. But, If you don't want to do that here is what you have to do. the pin hole is for the paper clip or something that will fit in the hole and is stronger than a paperclip. once you push the little pin in with paper clip you have to turn the ingition switch and it will slid right out. Now the only problem is that you need the key to do that. Now since you Don't have a key you have to go and buy a "Band New Titianium " Drill bit about 10 mm and drill out the Old ignition switch. now you have to be careful. You want to do this slow and "do not drill in to far. You only want to go in far enough to get all of the little spring neeldes out so you can turn the ignition switch and pull it out. Once you have the old one out you slide the new one in and there you go. tell me if you need any thing more.

The best thing to do is either go to a local lock smith and let them remove and re-key the switch or remove the entire unit. To remove the entire switch you will need to disconnect the battery and remove the wires off the back of the ignition switch and remove the main bolt in the back. The entire lock will come out and I suggest at that point find a lock smith unless you can buy the entire unit. You don't want to destroy the housing because then the ignition could have problems. Locksmith at this point is probably the best way to go.

I suggest you check into the Galaxie Club of America, lots of people in it, its an international club. I was VP of our local SoCal Galaxie club for 9 years and wrote for the international newsletter. GALAXIES RULE.
