I have been partial to people names for all of my dogs--Joshua (Josh), Jacob (Jake), Jessica (Jessie), Jonah James (Joey), and
Meiko (Meeks).

I like names from the Bible--strong guy names. I like Zach. I have heard hunting dogs, like your lovely Gordon (Black and Rust) should have a registered name like Lee's Best Shot and then be called "Shot."

I have also heard that two-syllable names help the dog to learn his or her name, like jes/sie. All of my dogs answered their names, but for Josh, we tried a few on to see if they ft. I really wanted Jeremiah (but the shortened version Jerry just did not fit).

So, use a baby book or look up kids names online. I know some of the cute names like Bailey or Hershey are used, but I like honest-to-goodness people names because after all the dog will be a part of the family.

Be sure you don't have someone next door with the same name or someone in your family or it could get really funny when you call your dog.

Try a few and see which name your pup responds to. Like children, sometimes the name you pick out is just not the right one when you see the dog. Good luck.

I think you should name him DUKE.....
Reason being is that this breed was mae popular by Duke Alexander of Gordon in the late 1700's.
Plus it is just a cool name.....it is actually my maiden name too!
