and on the road of life, you missed your "turn off"? Is it too late to turn back, and to journey the path you're suppose to?

OR:

Is it too late, and you aren't able to fulfill the purpose which initially God set out for you to do? (I mean does his calling ever change?)

*Sorry everyone, but I'm stuck on the issue of "Obeying one's calling."

Austin, "Jonah" is actually one of the things which has been on my mind. Things sort of happen in a full circle don't they?

I also think of Samuel in the Bible. Samuel never 'recognized' God calling him initially...I think alot of times, we as Christians are like that too.

Look no further then the story of David. He runs to the battle to fight Goliath, and destroys him with great faith. However later you find him commiting adultery with Bathsheba, and even killing a man to cover up his affair.
However David is considered a man after God's own heart at his old age. But how can this be, when he did such horrible acts of disobedience. This is because of the David repentance after he heard how dissapointed God was with him.
So the point is no matter how far off the path you go; God can bring you back on tract. Seek first the kindgom of God and his righteousness and all the rest shall be given to you.

I too struggled with "my calling". I was so confused about what God's will was for my life. It took a few years, and a great book by John MacArthur to realize this: God's will for my life, and all believers, is that I be saved ( 2 Peter 3:9), Spirit-filled (Ephesians 5:18), sanctified (1 Thess 4:3-7), submissive (1 Peter 2:3-15), and suffering (1 Peter 4:19), and here's the best part....to do whatever I want! As long as you are obeying the first five principles, you will be in God's will for your life. He doesn't care who you marry, what you do for a living, or where you move. As long as you are being an obedient Christian He wants you to follow your desires. If you are following those first 5 principles you can rest assured that you are in the center of God's will for your life.
Keep moving, don't sit around and say you don't know what God wants you to do! If you're obedient He'll start opening doors and you'll go places you'd never imagine!
Read "Found: God's Will" by John MacArthur. It's a great book!

I believe if God puts a calling on someone that calling never changes, whether you obey it or not. God called my husband to be a minister, or something along those lines, when he was 20 years old. He is now 41 and he still hasn't heeded to that call, but it is still there, and he feels it. He is letting fear stand in his way,but I believe one day he will do what God asks, because when God puts a calling on your life,it will always nag at you even if you backslide(return to your old ways, run from God.) I also believe that during that time you run from your calling you are learning hard won lessons that will actually make you a better, stronger person to fulfill that calling,so it is never too late.

I believe as we seek God, he will get us back on course. Maybe we won't reach the full potential or achieve as much, but we can get back in sync, and still do some of what God had for us to do.
I had a prophecy spoken over me one time on this that God would make up for lost time!

One's calling can change just as easy as the direction of the wind. As we make our free will choices, the path we are following will change. With this change comes a new era in your life, in which you hear another calling. There are many ways to serve and many paths which all lead back to the One.

God knows you can accomplish what He wants. That's why He picked you for the calling He has for you.everyone misses turn-offs (for whatever reason). If you can't turn around and take that path He wanted you on then move on to the next exit He directs you to.
(note I am seeking God on some questions on which exits or on ramps I need to take).

There is but one way and it is very narrow. You can get off it but you don't have to stay there. You can always return to the faith in GOD and follow the path of truth and love if you desire to do that. You are not lost until your death seals the final opportunity and you have not turned to him.

Where is the book of Jonah?

I don't believe it's ever to late... I sure don't believe there is any retiring from the call He has in any life. In fact the older you get the sweeter it gets, perhaps just more wisdom and enjoyment!. What He gives...He never takes away!
God bless you<><
By the way, you will always be His Daughter. You are precious to Him<><

God causes things to work together for the good of those who love Him. I do think that your calling can change due to disobedience. But, I also believe He will replace it with a new one. So, if you are diligently seeking God's purpose in life for you, be assured He will get you there. Afterall He knows we are less than perfect.
