I am sick of my eyes being red. It started in February of 2006 with one eye being bright red and a little irritated, and has never cleared up. First one eye, then the other, now back to the first. Yes, it has really been 17 months. I've tried ClearEyes, Visine, and CVS brand redness reducing drops. They took the deep redness down to a pale pink, but only for a few hours. And after a couple of days, they didn't even do that. So I went to the doctors. One opometrist, one opthamologist, two different cornea specialists. Between them I've gotten four prescription eyedrops, and an 1800mg script for ibuprofren. They did the same thing as the drops, except they kept working for a little longer. Finally, I saw my rheumatologist, who prescribed me two oral prescriptions. I'm tired of taking medicine everyday and my eye still being red. I'm tired of missing a day of meds and getting a headache in my eye. I'm tired of people accusing me of having pinkeye. What can I do to be normal again?

Ok, let me be more specific. I'm looking for alternate or home remedies, because I'm tired of going back and forth to the docter and the pharmacy. I've been to four eye doctors, a rheumatologist, and three primary care physicians. I think I've explored that option pretty fully.

If you have been prescribed a high dose of Ibuprofen and are now taking oral meds prescribed by a rheumatologist I think you have had either episcleritis or iritis. Both can be chronic eye conditions and are associated with a number of rheumatoid and rheumatoid related diseases.

Unfortuately, your red eye is likely due to your underlying systemic rheumatoid problem and the only solution is medication. If people accuse you of having pink eye, tell them you would be grateful to have pink eye as it is easily cured, you have a chronic eye condition with no cure. That should at least get you some sympathy.

I have real bad eye allergies and my optometrist told me that I need to clean my eyelashes when I shower. He said bacteria and allergens can get caught up in your lashes. There are special eye washes but you can also use a gentle shampoo or face wash and rub a little on the side of your pointer finger and gently rub your lashes with your eyes closed of course and rinse immediately. If you use a real gentle cleanser like baby shampoo or eye wash then it should not burn your eyes. It may not cure your problem but it could lessen the symptoms. Hope this helps and you get feeling better.

why dont you try to see another opthalmologist and have your eye examined thorougly.
i think your case is the same as mine, ive been experiencing the same case before, i have my eye checked by a different optalmologist and there they have used a certain gadget. and there it is, they saw s small thin strand of eyelash that has penetrated inside that caused all the irritations. it is a scrutinous process but after that.....all is back to normal!

how 'bout glasses that work? ever though of buying something other than cvs? get an exam already...

in answer to your edit...have you explored homeopathy? this appears to be far more organic than opthalmologic...are you at all interested in pursuing other forms of treatment...those that might..say...investigate further? since i believe all illness begins at the root of ourselves, i always seek the internal source....are you seeing something you don't want to see?
