I know how that feels. it hurts so much when you have a cat that really needs help and you dont have the money to do it.
but I used to work at the human socity (and man it still gives me nightmares) but they will do it for free. i know in some areas they will let you keep the body.
but it is at best to do this. it may die pretty soon but its best to do this so its not suffering.
also some human socity will let you be there by it side. (I never had to put one down cause i was 17 there and it was a summer job but i was cleaning the litter pans in the back and i remember seeing some owner wanting to be there, cause it does help them both and also the one whos doing it too)
You did do a good thing by caring and helping, but sometime in this cases we wish we havent. its hard to do this, i know that so much, but it is suffering terribly, you are doing the right thing;don't let anyone make you feel guilty.

you are an angel to animal, not many would care this much on one this sick.

You know, sometimes we go thru things for a reason. You may have been an "angel" to the kitten, sent just so you could give the poor thing some love and attention in its last days. Why don't you go to a shelter and give another kitten a chance at life. ? It might be the best thing you will ever do, and get a good friend in exchange! You seem like a very caring person, to do what you did for the dying kitten, so share your love and compassion with another kitten that could possibly be on the list to be "put to sleep" at a shelter. PLEASE!? and God Bless You!

The vet I work at charges $75 if you want to be in the room, $40 if you don't. It is around $80 to cremate if you don't want the ashes back, $150 if you do want the ashes back. You can take the animal home and bury it for no charge of course. The reason it is more expensive if you want to be in the room is because you have to have an appointment, otherwise you can just drop the animal off. The vet may give you a discount on the actual euthanasia since it is a kitten and will only take a very small amount of the injection for it to work.

The humane society by us does it for free though...but I don't think you can get the ashes sent back to you. Not sure on that though.

I'm very sorry for your kitty.

well if u took the cat to get worms pulled i am sure u can afford to put the animal to sleep , i have put 3 cats to sleep in my life 2 i paid for and each was 15 dollars, the 3rd one not exactly sure cause it was in the bill that was handed to me after 3 days of being at the vets, but ya just take the kitten somewhere say you found it let them makes that choice not only will it be cheaper on you but it will also save you the grief of knowing u put an animal down cause even thought it might be the right thing to do it still is a hard thing to do for me atleast

I'm not sure how much it would cost for a kitten, but when I had to do it for my dog, it cost around $100 (he weighed about 40 lbs. and was very ill with cancer).

That said, I'd either check with the vet first to make sure there is nothing that can be done for its health, or turn it in to the animal shelter. The problem with animal shelters is that they are often overcrowded with cats to the point they will not accept any. Also, to save money many will euthanize a sick animal anyways.

And don't let others judge your decision, whatever it is.

For a vet, it is an simple and inexpensive procedure. An injection and few seconds later, the animal drifts away. A local vet here charges about 50 dollars for the service.

Since you are really not an owner of the cat, why don't you talk to the vet accordingly.

You'll get many emotional replies here, but since you are the one directly interfacing with the vet and the animal, I presume you and your vet know it is the best way. You should really talk to the vet, not the community. Hopefully, he will be understanding and charge you the least necessary to cover his costs. (or less)

I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. It wouldn't matter if we didn't care, but it does matter, doesn't it?

At least the kitten had a chance at help, even if things didn't work out. That's better than the alternative of being alone and with no help.

A lot of people have dealt with this, myself included. Go ahead and cry, it helps. At least we do the right thing when we're needed. You did good.

You are a kind, loving person to be so concerned for a stray kitten. My heart goes out to you, it is so difficult to see a tiny, gentle creature be so sick and die.

Please go to http://www.petloss.com and add a tribute to the kitten.

My niece and I attempted to save a stray kitten that had been hit by a car last Sunday. She had a mangled leg and internal injuries and had to be euthanized. I cried so hard for her. And I could not let her go without telling the world it had lost a sweet baby. I named her Laura, her tribute is listed for last week, date of death 7/15/07.

It gave me peace to do this for Laura. Maybe you could write a tribute or poem for your little kitten.

Purrs and Prayers to you!

Maybe you should ask you vets opinion about this. The kitten might pull through. I heard that animals have over come and pulled through some very difficult things. If your strap for cash maybe you should take it to an animal rescue shelter.

So sorry to hear about the kitten. x

Around here,it costs about 10 dollars to put a very small kitten to sleep.I am in Ohio,so I don't know about where you are,but just call and ask,or you can take it to a shelter. If it is suffering terribly, then you are doing the right thing;don't let anyone make you feel guilty.

I'm sorry you lost the little thing, but you made her feel loved in her last days.At least she didn't die all alone in the street.
