*Lilith comes from a midrash, explanatory tale, and is not in the Torah.

*Lilith, as the explanation goes, was Adam's first wife. She was not subservient to him (quite the handful!) and left. As a matter of fact, she became very evil.

*Old (Jewish) wives tales would warn of Lilith coming to take the life from babies as they lay sleeping. This is how the tradition of tying a red string on a baby's crib got started. The hope was that Lilith would be distracted by the bright, red ribbon and not kill the baby.

Judahism--Adam's first wife----wouldn't be a good wifey so she got replaced with more subservient Eve. Considering what happened, maybe God and Adam should have kept Lilith?

From what I can find around the internet, she was to be Lucifer's other half. Don't recall exactly where I found the info, but I found it on several websites.

--edit--

oohhhh that's right. Now I remember. She was Adam's first wife, but she decided she didn't want to be subservient to him, she wanted to be equal, so she left him. I believe that's when she went to Lucifer.
