The technical definition is a tree has a single woody stem trunk that is at least 3 inches in diameter at Designated Breast Hight (DBH; 4.5feet from the ground) and will grow to atleast 13-feet tall.

Different foresters or forest ecologists may debate certain details of this definition, but its a nice, simple and workable defintion.

However, this definition does have a couple flaws:
1) Saplings are still trees, but they are not 3-inches in diameter and aren't 13-feet tall.

2) Some trees, due to some kinda of damage, maybe have a split trunk below DBH but it is still considered a tree.

In sceince a tree is an organism that belongs to Kingdom Plantae,
in Literature it means many things suh as Sturdiness and reliability.
