Desexed or not..why do female dogs squat and male dogs lift their legs

for male dogs, the higher the scent is, the better it is for marking (cause other dogs can't get to it, but they can still smell it).
but some male dogs never learn the meaning or how to put their leg up and pee. some dogs just naturally learn it by looking at other males doing it. my dog took about 6 months to learn the leg up thing.
females *generally* squat cause that way, the urine won't get on them and it won't get them dirty and smelly.
but i have seen a highly territorial female lift both legs up to mark their tree. this is very unusual and you wouldn't see it much.

We have a Box/Pit mix and she lifts her legs up like a male dog does.

It's because males can pee on their own leg if they don't life. Not all males do lift their leg. My bulldog sure doesn't

I guess cause if boys peed squating down they would pee on their necks...........hahaha
