Ok I know what you're thinking.Gee Spazz what are ya up to now? Well my friends I got kinda bored & I decided to do some research on what the majority of Americans want to do about illegal immigration. And I found these polls. The majority of them say that most Americans want some sort of legalization IF illegals learn English, pay taxes, and have been here for a few years.I would have even more but I excluded any polls from Latino based sites.

Ok I know what you're gonna say next.
"You used biased polls from La Raza!!!!"
NO I got my polls from sites like Angus-Reid ,who also has polls that say most Americans want English as our official language[totally agree]

OR you'll say
"Well how come we defeated the amnesty bill? 80% of Americans hated it."
Well for starters 46% of Americans disproved of the bill & 15% of the 46 thought the bill was too harsh on illegals.Plus the bill got a lot of bad press in the news by senators that don't even know the meaning of amnesty.

PS.The self-deportion theory is a dream. We have some of toughest drug laws in America and drug use is still a major issue. Therefore even with the hardest laws[ dealing with illegals getting work]the illegals will still have jobs.Meaning they'll be here.

A wall would be a waste of $.
[ladders, shovels, wire cutters ,etc,]we just need alot more border patrol.

Doing nothing, which is what we're doing right now, is amnesty by default.

So what do you think?
BTW. any polls from
Faux news
the heritage foundation
Lou Dobbs
or sites similar to "outragedpatriot.com"
are clearly biased and invalid

It's funny how so many are on here saying that "the majority" of americans want illegals to go home. I think that is utter crapola. Maybe that's the case with the majority of those that post answers on the yahoo immigration board but that's it!!! Furthermore, I loved all of your research and it is about time that we sock it to the anti-illegals with the FACTS. It's sad that we can't even agree to disagree. You put solid proof in front of their faces and they STILL argue about it. There is no reason to argue. Agree to disagree! It's ok if they don't want to believe it but they could at least respect our decision to have an alternate opinion! God forbid we don't all spew hate at illegal immigrants. Congrats to you for taking the time to research all of that and prove that we do have another stance we can take on this issue and that not all americans are haters and so uncompassionate.

Those that opposed the comprehensive proposal defeated the effort, I believe, because they were more passionate. They seemed to be possessed by hate or something close to it.
They were not in the majority (as you have have documented it), but their reasoning was easy to understand and single minded.
It is known, that effects such as this are not uncommon in a democracy.
A democracy, which by definition allows mass participation in decision-making theoretically also allows the use of the political process against 'enemy' groups (In this case the illegal aliens from Mexico).

Anybody who fell for the "illegal immigration problem" is simply brainless. There are definitely a lot of illegal immigrants in this country but they are NOT A PROBLEM. The bigots in this country who send death threats to senators that support the Amnesty Bill are a HUGE PROBLEM. It's amazing to me that we are in the year 2007 in the most developed country in the world; yet, it's full of ignorant people. We might be ahead of most countries in technology but we are a couple of centuries behind in tolerance for others.....ok, bye.

I speak for NO one- but myself. Other people have mouths & brains- I would HOPE they would use them (although not necessarily in THAT order), to make their OWN decisions. Personally, I find most people tend to go along with the crowd...-not unlike migrating "lemmings"- until THAT leads them over the "cliff" of bad (or lack of) judgement (take our current "Leader" for example...-Please!). People "shift with the wind"...- & there's NO TELLING what will catch their fancy, 12 months from now (And as for the Immigration "fad", with the Country pretty even split on the Issue- It's going NOWHERE. We're still gonna be talking about this issue- in 2016 when Obama takes Office...). :)

I don`t think it is fair to the people that come here the correct way and that it is the employer who gave them the motivation to come here in the numbers that they do and shame on the employers for putting us in the position to tell these nice people that have to go for now. However the illegals that are here and need medical help show not be turned away because they are still human. We have an illegal employer problem and we need to threaten with jail for it to sink it.

wow you did a lot of research. i kinda always figured that most americans did want a reform to legalizes illegals. its just that most people on yahoo will say that they are not correct and that the polls are not taken by everyone...there is just no reasoning with some people who think they are 100% right. you see....you gave them all these sites and they still make up excuses.
i know a lot of americans who are willing to give legal status to people who qualify and willing to contribute to this country.the last bill was turned down because it had its bad sides and not all the congressmen agreed with certain points of the bill. now the chance for the amnesty is bigger (no the bill was not amnesty so get your definition straight) since the last reform was turned down. what did the people who opposed it fix? NOTHING! illegals are still here and major deportation is not a logical solution.
something will be done sooner or later. meanwhile we continue fighting!

I think that your polls are self serving, those people are not aware of the 1986 amnesty, and think as most did then that amnesty would end the problem, and no more would come, but as in 1986 a new amnesty is code your turn is next, so sneak across and you too can have a chance at the American dream, paid for by the tax payers of course

There are a lot of polls the other way, including some by Angus Reid. However, the point our politicians don't get is the poll never says 'do you WANT legalization' it says something along the lines of IF they paid taxes and IF they were here for years (or had a child born here) and IF the problem were solved would you support legalization.

That is very different on calling it the GOAL of the majority. Legislation has to focus on addressing the impacts of illegal immigration on our schools, hospitals, services and job structure, and any 'guest worker program' above what is already the most generous immigration quota on the planet has to ACTUALLY pay for it's worker's impacts - school allowances, health insurance, pension plans, the whole nine yards.
