Broken windshields are comprehensive losses - subject to your comprehensive deductible.

Some insurance companies will WAIVE the deductible, if the state allows, if you have your windshield REPAIRED rather than replaced, if it's repairable.

Contact your agent to see if this applies to you.

Insurance will cover it. The question is WHICH PART of your insurance policy will cover it, and to what degree.

Generally, road hazard damage is covered by comprehensive. Unfortunately, most people's deductibles are higher than what it costs to replace a windshield. Many companies have special glass deductible buy-back provisions in which they will repair the crack for free (generally if you can cover it with a dollar bill, they'll fix it), or replace it at a greatly reduced cost. State Farm will usually repair a windshield for free. With Farmers, it's an option you can purchase, but it's very low-cost.

Hopefully that helps out. Stay away from gravel trucks!

As long as its under the size of a quarter, if its over the size of a quarter but, under the size of a dollar bill it's still covered though there will be a deductible usually of anywhere from $1,000-$500....the deductible will not have to be paid unless the glass man makes the damage worse while trying to fix it. I just went through the same thing. Quality auto glass repaired the damaged from a rock absolutely free of charge (I have full coverage/comprehensive) but before he started his work he told me about the risks, since the crack had started to spider, he had to say that if the crack started to spread anymore he would be obligated to stop to prevent liability. Ect ect. Then if the windshield did do so I would have to replace said windshield which would result in a $1,000 deductible if my insurance where involved as it'd be wayyy more affordable to just buy a new one for $200-$300 bucks at most;) So long story short (LOL) its a gamble!) Goodluck!

Yes it would be covered but windshields are not that expensive so it may be cheaper for out of pocket. I got a new windshield for my Tahoe for under $200. Call around and tell the companies you are doing that they will negotiate

I think it depends on your insurance. A rock hit my windshield, and when I had it repaired, found out that my insurance (State Farm) had stopped covering that repair.

Most likely they will, but you will have to pay your deductible in order for them to cover it. If you belong to AAA and it's just a crack no bigger than a quarter they will come out and repair for free.
