if it isn't in writing when you ship out, it's your own fault.

when you say you didn't get the job you want.. was the job you wanted available? did you qualify for it? the Classifier at MEPS cannot magically pull a slot out if there isn't one or you don't qualify.

Your first step would be to take the ASVAB and process MEP's. Since you are interested in the Admin field (IM and Personnelist) it will be hard for you to get a guaranteed job that leaves within a couple of months but as long as you score above a 42 QT with about a 45-50 in Admin you should be eligible. After processing medical and completing the ASVAB, your MEPS counselor will let you know what jobs you are qualified for. Just let him/her know that you are only interested in 3A0X1 and 3S0X1 and put those down on your job reservation form. You will initial it and then you pretty much wait until a job drops for you.....MAKE SURE you DO NOT list any other jobs down unless you want to. Do not let them convince you to put down open Admin, even though you do have a high chance of getting 3S or 3A but you also have a chance of other AFSC's that you may not be happy with. You posting only 2 jobs will pretty much guarantee that you get one of those jobs. They can't force you to put down any more. So yes, guaranteed jobs are doable in the AF, people just don't know how to work the system :) Most Admin jobs have a long wait period since they are generally jobs that we give to those who don't score high enough on the ASVAB....keep that in mind. Don't expect to leave within a couple of months. For MEO you have to be in for no less than 3 years, serving in any AFSC and then cross-training into it. MEO is not given to first-term enlistees. 3S0X1, translates to Human Resources in the civilian world 3A0X1, can translate to many things but mostly Office Manager or Computer Help Desk Technician. You can apply for a special duty assignment through the Equal Plus Listing. The jobs listed in there are hard to fill for one reason or another but when applied for your current tour may be able to be waived to get into one of these jobs.

Depends on your job, and if you're an officer/enlisted. For instance, as an officer I did not want to be in Space/Missile but no hope of retraining for me, however, it turned out to be a good job.

In 4 years you can retrain. Some jobs you can move around in like administrative type work, my job you couldn't.
