In the Army, some main duties depends on your MOS(job title) or where you are placed as a soldier. But as a private, your main responsiblity is to follow whatever orders are given to you that are in legal means and remembering your basic soldiering skills. As a SGT and above, you are rquired to be a leader of your specific job set and your main objective is for training the lower ranking soldiers helping out with as many as possible but you may obtain soldiers that your are specifically responsible for their development and growth. The higher the rank you have to mre advisor your job position becomes. But by myself being a private...I just try to learn as much as I can, do whatever I am told and try to stay out of trouble.

Depends on you job, but it goes like this

Enlisted men and non Commissioned Officers.
Private, Private First Class, Specialist - The Workers
Corporals, Sgt.s First line supervisors, Squad leaders
Staff Sgt.s, Sgt First Class, Master Sgt - Platoon Leaders
1stSgt - in charge of a Company
Sgt Major, In charge of a Battalion.
Command Sgt Major in charge of a Brigade, and Division.

Commissioned Officers
doesn't matter they don't do anything.

Lt. Watches Sergent.
Capt Watches 1st Sgts
Major Watches Capt and kisses asses of Higher ranking officers.
Lt. Colonel Watches lower officer and Sgt Majors
Colonels polish their birds.
Generals make major decisions if the president lets them. Runs bases by asking the Command Sargent Major what he thinks.

Well that's what I remember about the army

PVT, takes orders and is a bullet catcher. Bottom of the totum pole.
SGT., depends on what Sargent it is: Plain Sargent is over a bunch of PFC's. Train them, march them and mainly training.
CORP., is below a Sargent. Usually a squad leader of some kind.
GENERAL. is over it all, He/She is the boss. Head honcho, does all the planning . Most Soldiers below that rank, very seldom see the GENERAL. These ranks are contained in the United States Army. God Bless American Soldiers.
