Skunked beer is not caused by fluctuating temperatures. It's caused by UV light causing a chemical reaction with the hop acids in the beer.
If a beer goes to extreme temperatures several times, it can get an off flavor to it, especially if there's active yeast in it. But it's not skunk.

to be honest, most beer has already been "skunked" even before purchased...very rarely does a beer make it to your fridge or your glass in a bar without first having gone through many temperature changes during transit, storage, purchase, etc... however, sometimes the taste of a "skunked" beer can be detected, and i think that is when it has been allowed to get to an especially warm temperature and then cooled again before consumption...bottom line, you might as well cool it back down and try it, you have nothing to lose, and if it tastes bad just get rid of it and start over! have fun and drink one for me!

It does start braking up the chemistry of the beer. Sometimes it's okay and others it really does smell like a skunk

No, it's fine. It really does not change the taste of the beer.
