Or does that rule about no gays in the military suddenly evaporate?

They will make you prove it. And even if you did, the paperwork would take as long as the tour would be, so they'd get it out of you. The military is not stupid when it comes to that stuff, just about everything else.

Hmmmm. The United States has an all volunteer military. There is no draft, so you were not forced to join. Let's see, we've been involved with Iraq pretty much since the Gulf War. We've had a significant presence there for the past 5 years.

I think you ought to have a chat with some real men. Look for a local post of the VFW or American Legion, and talk with some real heroes of our nation.

Trying to evade by calling yourself queer? That not only makes you a coward, it makes you a liar too. (provided you really are not gay). I would say good riddance to you and don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you on your way out.

But to answer your question, no, claiming to be gay will not mean an automatic discharge. It will probably mean a stay at a fine base in Kansas for violating the "Don't ask, Don't tell" rule.

As a soldier being over here in Iraq, depending on the job you do determines how bad being over here is. Signing up for the Army any time after 9-11, anyone should know deployments are a given. Going awol is a cowards way out. But no one faced with this decision can judge any of us because the toughest thing about being here is being away from our families. The military is very smart on finding out how people try to get in and out. This deployment is not bad enough to lie about your sexual preference. You swore an oath just be a man or woman stick it out over here with the rest of us. God will end this war when he is ready.

No, Under the don't ask don't tell policy you may have a preference for gay sex and still be allowed to stay. There may be a rule about actually performing a gay sex act is a reason to kick you out, But the sargent will just think you are saying that to avoid Iraq and not believe you.

Its a good way to get an undesirable dischage, if that means anything to you. Unlike the Vietnam War era, ( when I served ) , there is no draft. While I agree it seems at best pathetic to be in the middle of somebody's civil war in order to have access to all that oil... That "some one" in the military did voluntarily enlist. I guess you have to make choices you can live with.

Someone who joined the military should expect to go where they are sent by their boss, the President. They joined knowing they could go to battle. They have no say, their opinion does not count, they are government property. If they don't want to fight they should move to France.

Because to be released from the military for claiming that you're homosexual, you have to be "caught" performing a homosexual act. You can be gay and be in the military in the US as long as you're not "practicing", or get caught in a homosexual act. Just b/c you tell someone like your commander that you're gay won't get you released.

Well, eventually they will get out, but not before they have spent a couple of years in Leavenworth.

It still beats a firing squad, don't ya think ?

if you join the military and are not ready to defend this country then they should just drag you out and shoot you for cowardice! if you are willing to say you're gay "******" then you should be ready to prove it!! while i was in Marine boot camp another recruit said he was queer to get out. our D.I. grabbed him and drug him into his "duty office" while unzipping his pants, we could hear him screaming.... they came out several minutes later.... he wasn't as queer as he thought he was!!! he graduated with the rest of us, he did have a very unpleasant experience the rest of the way through boot camp.... SEMPER FI .....UHH -RAAHHH!!!
