do what every member of the pelosi/reid regime does...sell the heck out of whatever you have, promise the moon and when you cant deliver, blame it on bush.

I take it you mean defeat through unnecessary retreat?
Well, first you identify early that you are going to use this means.
Then you have the media report only bad news.
Then you tell the American public that Soldiers are dying over the financial gains of a corrupt leader.
Then you push for admission by everyone that you've been defeated, which means success to your political campaign.
Then you retreat, to save the soldier(the protector) from being unprotected.
At all costs, you would attempt to hide any positive news about the war and hide the truth about the intent of the enemy, but fortunately for this strategy, the media wants you in office and supports your efforts.

With the right marketing. You could try sending out some samples to get the word out.
