It isn't only stereotypes about my religion I have to deal with, I get it everytime I say I've gone to school to get into the Criminal Justice field. I actually ran into someone IN THE FIELD who thought that I was better off at home - barefoot and watching children.
As for my Faith - I've heard many wild and crazy stories about what we as Latter-Day Saints really believe and do.
The part that makes me most sad is that there will always be people who think and believe that because someone doesn't believe in God the same way that they do - that that person is wrong, crazy, demented, or going to wherever that person's condemned souls go after this life.
Tolerance isn't one of Mankinds standard virtues - If you've seen any of the X-Men movies, you'll have heard Xavier say that sharing anything has never been easy for Mankind.

According to the stereotypes I've heard here, I should be on my knees constantly worshiping statues, accepting the Virgin Mary as my personal lord and savior, plotting wild conspiracies against Protestants, and not daring to make a single move without Papal consent. Oh, and we Catholics aren't even Christians anyway, at least according to about a thousand different posts here in R&S. Anyway, at least we're not the only ones being bashed. The Wiccans, atheists, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and everybody else gets to join in the fun and have their beliefs and opinions slammed, as well.

At my old school I had someone once ask me how many mothers I had. LOL! Another girl asked me where my horns and tail were! It was so ridiculous it made me laugh uncontrollably! I've faced much of the same generalisations on Y!A also, but I have the same responses to those as I did to people in my own life. After several years in the LDS church you get used to it and it eventually stops to bother you! :)

I think the biggest stereotype that I have and still over coming is being white and growing up in a rough predominantly black neighborhood. On one hand, I'm not accepted my whites b/c I must be up to know good b/c of the area that I was raised in. (for them ignorance must be bliss) And then on the other hand, some blacks do not like me b/c I "shouldn't" be there I'm up to no good. I think all of it is ignorant but that is life.

People have a tendency to criticize what they don't understand. Somehow it makes them feel in control when they are rude. It's a shame, they are dismissing the chance to learn & grow as a human.

I'm mormon so, there are a lot of them. Maybe not stereotyping, but misconceptions:
You're not Christian...
You have your own bible...
You have been brainwashed...
And my all-time favorite:
How many mothers do you have...

"most" or "some" are good prefixes.
regardless of what one believes, some will always follow the heard, some will always be able to think for themselves. good point.
