The Amish choose to not partake in modern conveniences due to their religious convictions.
The Mennonites are more liberal but still adhere to certain religious convictions yet not to the extreme measures as the Amish.

Amish are actually a subset of the Mennonites from what I understand. The Mennonites are much less strict about technology. They will drive cars, use electricity and so on but they keep it very plain. They both have that very plain dress, but you will see colors other than black and white with Mennonites.
In general they are very alike though. I lived in PA for a long time. I had Amish as my closest neighbors and I worked with a few Mennonites.

The Amish were a sect of the Mennonite religion. They felt that the Mennonites were becoming too "modern" and therefore seperated themselves. Mennonites live in the world as everyone else and embrace new technology and traditions.
