If you want it done the healthiest then you should STEAM it.
Wash the squash then slice it into coins about 1/2" in thickness or thinner. Place these slices in a steamer and steam for as short as possible just to heat through.

I am from the south and let me tell you we lived on squash alot. An old family recipe was stewed squash, if it is the yellow kind. you clean and cut them up in bring them to a boil with 1 onion chopped and plenty of garlic also. right at the end you drain the squash and add no salt butter about 1 stick of it to the squash. it is really good.

I cut it in half, take out the seeds and put a little olive oil, salt and pepper on it then bake till soft. YUMMY!!!
Sorry....bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 25 - 30 minutes. Poke it with a fork to test if it's done. The fork will come out really easy and the smell will be delicious!! Put the halves cut side up also.

I assume you mean summer squash, which looks like a yellow zucchini. I like to eat it raw, but if that's not your thing, you can steam it, or just cook it in the microwave until it's soft. You can also put chunks of it ok a skewer with chicken or beef chunks and make kabobs!

The best way that i enjoy is brush them with evoo (extra virgin olive oil) and grill them with a little salt and pepper. Grill till start to turn soft to the touch.

My husband said to bake it in the oven at 350 with butter on it.
You'll get better advice than this, but maybe it's a start.

Slice it then steam it.. That would be the healthiest way. I like it the unhealthier way.....sauted in butter or breaded and fried.
