I was just looking into this recently and one of the ladies pointed out that liquid will follow the edge till it stops.....then it will drip. So if your counters curve all the way under, anything you spill will be running into your drawers. So that was a factor. My house is older and when I moved in it had beveled edges with mauve and grey Formica....so when I think bevel, I can't get that image out of my head....I wasn't replacing my cabinets and was on a budget....so I'm going with replacing all my hardware on my cabinets and getting the counter tops they sell in pieces at Lowe's. It's cheaper and the colors are just as nice as the ordering them custom and I found a handyman in town who will install them....I hope it works out...

I am a granite snob so for me all other counter tops are inferior. I know granite might not be the most practical but to me granite is a piece of art that came from the earth and that is why I love showing it off. The edge I love is called a triple bullnose or a waterfall edge it really brings attention to the granite more so than the basic bullnose or squared edge. Note: For triple bullnose to work make sure granite is not 3/4" but 1 1/2".

I spend so much time in the kitchen over the years,
the countertop edge I prefer has a raised edge to it.
This prevents spills from running and dripping over the edge.
No granite for me. There are too many small holes that can
fill-up and never be cleaned. Besides, anything glass will
break on it.
Give me Corian or Formica

These two different styles all together so what style do you prefer? If you are going to do laminate and arne't equiped with saws and routers then I would order the prefab ones they will do the miters if needed and sink cutout Tile is pretty easy if you start with a good base depending on the existing counter top you could do some leveling then install wonder board or hardie board now your ready for tile. Take some time to figure your layout so you don't get to the end and have some goofy pieces.

I'm into granite, I love it! It is so beautiful. Cost is a factor but it last forever if taken care of. As far as the edges, have you ever rammed into the corner of a straight edge counter granite or othe material? Well let me tell you it hurts like sh*t. In the hips or ribs if your short like me. I like the bull nose! It looks and feels better.
