My 9 yr lab/plott hound about 75# has attacked 6 dogs that came into our yard We have an underground fence that works We have 2 others, a 12 yr sharpei/golden and a 6 yr shitzu. 2 had open wounds to the neck needing treatment. 3 not injured as I was able to pull him off quick. 1 dog was a friends that he got along with. But once attacked it. He is a big baby & loves people. But I have seen him fight & he seems to have a totally viscious side. This behavior didn't start until the last 3-4 yrs. Last night I was outside with them, and he was sitting by the door as I was coming towards the door. My 12 yr old shapei/ret mix came up behind him to the door, Im not sure if she startled him or what, he turned on her and attacked her. She is so docile &didnt fight back I got them apart with much difficulty She has severe puncture wounds to side of head & neck i think she will be ok, scared to death will happen again or to the little one. Hard to keep them separated here What can I do-worried sick

As well you should be, the next time he could seriously injure one of your animals. What happens if a small child comes into your yard?
Many communities have trainers with experience working with "red line" dogs. Keep in mind that this is a last try issue, if this kind of behavior can not be controlled, you will have to have him put down before your community forces you to have him destroyed.

Since the behavior is a change from previous behavior, the first thing I would suggest is having your vet give the dog a thorough exam. The fact that he has attacked one of the dogs he lives with leads me to think there might be some physical cause. Also, since this behavior has been going on for a while, perhaps contacting a professional dog trainer would be in order. I am concerned that the behavior, from your description, appears to be escalating. hope this helps. sc

Sounds like a ticking time bomb that keeps going off.. You should either get him properly evaluated by a behaviorist and find out what the problem is, or have him put down. If you aren't going to protect the neighbourhood from your vicious dog by having up a proper fence, and you can't keep him from attacking your own dogs.. Well he is a huge liability and it's only a matter of time before you end up in court..

Might be time to consider a new home for the vicious one, if only to protect the innocent. First, a GOOD, breeder and vet-recommended dog trainer who handles serious problems might be helpful, and I hope you try that and it works, but you have to decide that dog's fate should it fail to learn from the trainer and you working for a bit with him BEFORE you set up the classes. Stalling will not help your conscience if he maims one of the others permanently, or kills one, will it? Don't give up out of hand, but set up parameters for dealing with the situation ASAP, and abide by your clearheaded and considered decision.

He might be going blind or deaf and you shoudl get him to the vet. I hate to say it but this happens to dogs in older age and if he gets scared, he will react. I would say call a dog trainer and have them come out and evaluate him. That is a bad thing to have happen. The dogs coming onto your lawn is not really your fault, he is is his own property and they shoudl ahve had leashes on. He is protecting his own territory, although you can train him not to attack them if you get a trainer. I think you should have a trainer come out and see whats going on with him and have the vet check him out for his hearing and eye sight. Good luck with him.

If your dog is attacking other dogs its best to look into getting him some obedience training. If he decides to be agressive with more than just dogs and possibly your friendly neighborhood mailman, then things could get very dicey.

LOL.My neighbor has chickens and one got over my fence...my Roc took it out.It was horrible.First taste of blood.Same thing happening to me now.He attacks almost every dog he sees if the dog makes the slightest noise. They dont have to bark or growl...he attacks them anyway.I luv my dog....so basically I keep no other pets and try to keep him inside. The last dog he got a hold of,he messed up bad.I broke a garden rake over his back before he let the dog up.I feel for you, believe me.Just try to keep them seperated. My Roc is a male,he never attacks females.

when a dog gets that way your only option is to put it down. better to do so before it bites someone and they get hurt badly and you get sued! I have had to do the same to my dog.
