Well, propane is much quicker. You can add mesquite wood to the fire and make your own flavors. Charcoal shoud never be sprayed with water when a flame appears, also food shouldn't be added until the charcoals are white. Hope this info helps. Charcoal also can be dangerous hours after use. Go with propane or natural gas if possible.

hank hill says propane is clean burning and efficient, i say propane
Propane is ready to go as soon as you set the burner in the furnace and open the gas valve. No wasted time. With Charcoal You must first get the charcoal burning which can be smoky at times, lighter fluid is helpful lighter fluid is helpful but those sheet metal igniter devices for barbecues are best. But it still takes a few minutes. Propane is usually available year-round since it's used for more than just gas barbecue grills. Barbecue charcoal is usually only available during the summer, making it hard to melt metal during the winter unless you stock up. With propane you don't have to clean up jack... it's clean heat. Charcoal leaves a lot of ashes to be cleaned away. Propane Burns cleanly all the time and no manual reloading is needed during furnace run since new propane enters the burner constantly. Charcoal Produces some smoke in the very beginning and sometimes needs more fuel to be manually added. When you get home after a long day, you might not want to wait 30 or 45 minutes for a charcoal fire to heat up

If you have the time, Charcoal and mesquite. If you're in a hurry and hungry then Propane or gas. Charcoal does give a better flavor though. There's nothing like a good New York or Porterhouse steak, seasoned with salt and pepper only , cooked medium rare with charcoals and mesquite. Add an ice cold beer and you're set!

Depends. I like propane for the speed and a somewhat grilled taste. But i like charcoal for the fact that it tastes better.

Food cooked on charcoal probably tastes better, but it's a royal pain in the @$$. Propane is much quicker, cleaner, and easier.

I like the taste of charcoal food but if your like me you go through it way to fast I BQ almost every night.. what you can do is use propane and get a bag of wood mix in the BQ section of your dept. store put the wood mix right on the grill next to your food and close the lid omg its good.. On the bag it will tell ya to soak your wood first you don't have to you can even soak them in apple juice. use like 3 to 5 chunks.. enjoy oh and send me a steak med rare please. Good luck
Oh I forgot propane heats alot faster, charcoal you have to wait to heat up sometime 20 minutes or more.

I think you need to clarify what you mean by better.
If you mean better in taste, then charcoal definitey gives a better taste. it is also less explosive than propane, so it means it's safer to use.
If you mean the environment, then propane will be better. Charcoal releases more greenhouse gases, not to mention dangerous carbon monoxide, and soot. It is also less efficient as the heat it produces is less.
