Since you don't pick your nose in front of others on the street, why should this other dirty personal habit be acceptable?
Do smokers think their waste smoke should somehow be tolerated by the people around them - yet they would not spit on them? Isn't cigarette smoke just another bodily waste like farting and spitting?
Can't the addicted smokers do their smoking in their own homes?

Spoken like a true nonsmoker who really does not understand nicotine addiction.
It is okay with me if a person smokes outdoors. Actually, I'd prefer that they smoke outdoors than spit outdoors.
Smokers can not go for hour after hour without feeding their addictions. I smoked for a long time. And I could not have gone out to work for 8 - 10 hours without a few cigarettes. Now I can, since I got free of this addiction. But I will not look down on, nor condemn those who are still addicted.

This has always been a topic of debate.
For smokers, there are smoking areas and unfortunately for others, it's quite a big smoking area because people tolerate it. When the time comes when smoke is treated like spit, or fart, maybe people wouldn't smoke in public as it would care the same embarassment. But for now, it's way not like spitting or farting.
Some cities have implemented the No Smoking in Enclosed Public Areas. It's a fair deal, I think. Smokers: Outside! (or on special smoking rooms)
p.s.
Spitting at others is not just rude, it's mean, it's degrading.
Farting has always been disgusting. Anywhere in the world.

Do people ask me if it's okay to drink around me when I'm an alcoholic??
Of course they don't. Why would they?
Smokers have rights too. So you don't like the habit. I'm sorry for you. Smokers are already banned from most indoor places so outside is the only place we can go.
Drinkers can drink in public. Smokers should be able to smoke in public.
No matter how you say it, no one will EVER EVER convince me that smoking is worse than drinking. I know first hand that they are equally destructive. One is not better than the other.
One other fact...I have never heard of anyone getting into a car and driving, killing an entire family in the process because they "had too much to smoke".
Lay off.

I wish people didn't smoke in public or around non-smokers. You don't fart in the company of others, you don't spit, pick your nose or burp around others, so why the heck do people think it's ok to smoke around others? Farts, burps and boogies won't kill anyone, but smoke slowly will.

I fail to see how its any worse than air pollution caused by cars, or using spray paint, or a million other causes of stinky air pollution nonsmokers cause on a daily basis.
And if there is an issue with bodily waste, will we eventually not allow dogs to defecate outside either? They can just do that in their owners homes.

Smoking outside is acceptable, just not around a group of people, say at a bus stop, so that the other people can inhale all of that tasty traffic exhaust.

smoking is no dirty habit!not dirtier then driving a car.if you can breathe gasses from millions and billions of cars every day you can also breathe some traces of cigar smoke that comes to you in public place.smoking is,unlike farting or picking your nose,a socially acceptable thing,i even think(and i am not thr only one) it looks pretty cool,i love to see someone smoking,it looks sooooo sexy and stylish.....i just love the way my bf holds a cigar
p.s. i am not saying smoking is good of course,i am just saying it is socially acceptable and has a kind of charm

I suppose smokers figure the smoke will be tolerated because we tolerate every other kind of foul air pollution. Hopefully drivers will soon do their driving in their own homes as well.
