It really depends on the competition at your school. If hardly anybody plays at your school, then I think you could shoot anything. At my school 19 people tried out and I made it with a 103.

Unless you have a huge school with gifted atheletes, if you can shoot around 43-47 you can make the JV team no prob. Number 1 on our JV team shot around 42. Number 6 on varsity would shoot anywhere from 42-52 depending on the day.
The kids who are shooting below that and are on JV are probably cheating because when they play with better players, they arnt allowed to cheat and shoot worse scores.
If you show great attitude before, during, and after the rounds this will instantly give you an advantage over someone who shot one stroke better than you/tied with you. Let the coach know you want to play!

Yeah, it depends on the school.
I go to De La Salle HS in California. The Varsity team are the 2006 state champions, and this year we finished 3rd in state.
I play on the JV team, as it was my freshman year, and we had to shoot 40-45. We played from the blue tees.

Probably anything.
It depends on your school, but I was captain of my HS Varsity team with a 13 handicap. Granted, our team as a whole sucked:)
