If you read the Bible, you would see that God made a covenant with Noah to never completely destroy the earth again.

Please note that when, in the old testament, God directly intervined, it was in direct responce to threats, destruction or disassociation with the creator concerning his chosen people. After the reconstruction of Jerusalem during the Persian reign, the scriptures are suddenly quiet. There is about an 800 year void where God does nothing for or against his people. There are no writings that make it into the cannon of scripture.
The writings once again are started at the arrival of Jesus and, as importantly, notice when.
The Roman empire is Pax Romanus, essentially at it's zenith of dominence under Augustus. Rome represents the last of the beasts decribed by Daniel and this also marks the period of the stone that would smash it.
Good roads and communications systems are the hallmark of Roman might and will serve to speed along the missionary work that would result from Christ's comming. The Jews where oppressed and called for the Messia to come, and many attempted vainly to fill these shoes though voilence.
God intervines directly in responce to the cries of his people and sends them the true Messia that the majority of the Sanhedron reject, as he represents a direct threat to the power that they wield. So a choice has to be made.
This will be the choice all must make. Accept Him or reject Him. But God will not directly intervine again until the final days.
He sent Jesus as the Messia of the Jews. Many Jews came. Most did not. So the new covenent was open to the gentiles. He is the spiritual intervention that stands between life eternal or not. Although God may be silent on the World Wars, genocide and the like, the fact that he allows us to make a personal choice as to how we live our lives, with Him or without Him through Christ, says alot for how he feels for us.

You make a good point. There are so many horrific acts or disasters that plague our world. Wars, earthquake, and genocides are perhaps just the tip of the iceberg.

You're asking, how come God doesn't do something?
The bible says that God will do something. Except, he won't just stop a war here and there or kill Bin-ladin, and let humanity carry on.

The truth is, God will act. But when He does something, He will do everything! He will utterly destroy heaven and earth and create new ones! No sin, no crime! No crying, No pain! Saved souls will be with God forever (but lost souls in the lake of fire forever as well).

"For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosever believes on him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Their choices are what condemned them. If they had made good decisions, they would have been saved.

Genesis 13:13  But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

"exceedingly" is a clear indication that there was nothing salvageable from this town except Lot and his family. It was better to destroy them than for their decrepit nature to pollute the rest of the world.

Keep in mind that the world was filled with all kinds of sin. What made Sodom and Gomorrah different is that they were totally void of anything good.

GOD bless

God sent an Angel to Sodom to warn the one man who was a Godly man. This man, whose name is Lot, asked God if there were 10 other Godly people in that city would He spare the city and God said yes. Lot could not find even one other.
There have always been wars. God looks at the hearts of men. He hates our suffering. The Bible tells us God sent angels to battlefields to assist those that had been faithful to God. God has given everyone the gift of life and freewill and so much more. God is so gentle and loving and faithful. His love is a love of a Father for His children. He cares about everything you go through. Talk to Him. He delights in the prayers of His children.
