Walk down the street of any busy town and watch the people going someplace. Everybody stumbles and walks around looking confused, Watch crowds trying to get into a football game as soon as the gates open-total chaos.

Marching is the best way to keep the troops together, maintain order, and them there the fastest on foot.

Marching also teachers discipline. That is why armies spend a lot of time marching and drilling during their recruit training.

It is also so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about back in the day when everyone carried spears and swords. If they didn't walk in some sort of uniform manner, half of the guys would be hurt with spears and swords stuck in their backs.

Nowadays, there is much to-do about military appearance. Having everyone in step and not "be-bopping" all over the place is much more pleasing to the eye. It presents the appearance of a well disciplined, sharp group of people.
