My ribs on my right side REALLY hurt. Sometimes when i breath in too deeply i get a sharp, stabbing pain in my ribs and it makes my right shoulder ache. I think it's the muscles inbetween my 2 of my ribs that have been pulled and have gone into spasm. How long until it goes away???Btw i'm a 16 year old male.

Because you are 16, had a traumatic onset and can reproduce the pain with activity, it is likely muscular.

Because you are only 16 it will heal in a day or two. For symptomatic relief, talk with your doctor, about using Ice or Heat locally (which ever feels better to you) and taking an anti-inflammatory like Aleve with food.

pulled rib muscles are one of the hardest conditions to heal. If it's possible that you can get to a chiropractor, physical therapist or massage therapist that would help you get over this much faster then anything you can do on your own.

Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion. You can also apply a moist heating pad to the area several times a day. Use Advil capsules four times daily to help with the pain. Rest and try not to do too much at this time.

The muscle in your shoulder might be tight. You might want to do some stretches. If the pain presist then you should go to the doctor... what you feel is probably not your ribs hurting you..its the muscle surrounding the ribs. Ok

you have either torn a rib muscle, fractured a rib, or both.... its very painful. i'm athletic and in great shape and couldn't even sit up in bed in the morning when i woke up... you can go to the doctor, but they can't put a cast on it so they'll just tell you to try and stay off it... it will take 1-1/2 months to heel and feel better, i know, it sucks... just take care of it, won't last forever.

Don't be listening to the "Doctors" in here, unless they are telling you to go see a Doctor. You could have some serious problem, or a cracked rib, maybe a pinched nerve, but were all only guessing here. SEE A DOCTOR!!

Hope the pain subsides.

Dear God, see a doctor, please. They have help for such pain, no reason to wait and wonder, could be more serious than "spasms". Good luck.
