My vet says Tylenol is toxic to dogs but what the heck is shivers? Sounds to me like a cold, wet dog and an anti-inflamatory is generally used for pain reduction. The only safe over-the counter anti-imflamatory is buffered aspirin (never Ibuprofin - that is the worst of all and quickly causes liver damage) and then only for a short time because extended use can lead to stomach ulcers. There are liver flavored pet varieties available but even these should not be given without consulting with a veterinarian.

NO! NO! never give a dog Tylenol - unless you want to kill it. Tylenol will damage a dog's liver pretty quickly. Call a Vet, or at best give the poor animal an 81 mg. aspirin in a slice of cheese!
Tylenol will also cause your dog to urinate a lot - and if you want that mess in your house - then perhaps you should not own a pet of any kind.

No. Never give an animal human meds. Is this a recent occurence? How long have you had to the dog? It all depends on the breed. Some dogs just shiver because of nervous tension. They're systems make them shiver or shake uncontrollably. If it's not from his\her nerves and purely from illness, then you need to get that animal to a vet asap. My friends cat developed shakes a while back and when she took him to her vet, he told her that the cat had gotten into something toxic and was poisioned by it. She's fine now, after taking proper pet meds. Good Luck!

Never under any circumstances, give your dog human medication without discussing it with your vet first. NEVER, EVER give your dog Tylenol or anything with acetaminophenin it, it is deadly to a dog. It won't do anything for the shivers anyway.

No!!! Dogs cannot take Tylenol. Why on earth would you want to give any dog pain medication for shivers anyway? You need to find out what's causing them and treat that!

No absolutely not!!! Never give a dog tylenol not even childrens formula..it is toxic to dogs..( Do NOT give Ibuprophen either..it is also toxic to dogs!!!)
Asprin can be safe but not for all dogs..NEVER give it without consent from your vet...your vet will also give you proper dosage instructions.
Contact your vet for proper medication for your dog.
DO NOT SELF MEDICATE...it can cause serious harm even death!!

DO NOT use dosages or medication recommendations from people on the net..they do NOT know your dog, do NOT know it's health history, do NOT know waht the problem is plus it is against the law for people (including licensed vets & techs) to recommend meds or give dosages out without a hands on exam. Waht might be right for someone elses dog may be completely wrong for yours.

NO NO NO

Tylenol can kill dogs - they don't digest and utilize it properly.

You can give them ibuprofen or aspirin. The best aspirin for dogs is Ascriptin (its Maalox coated aspirin)

Call your vet, sometimes you can get a recommendation over the phone or they can tell you to come in.

No! That is for humans. Take your dog to the vet to get a medicine for it, and no, not a doctor to help a human!
