I don't think that any one can be happy, with any pope. A person who dresses in fine linens embroided with precious stones and real gold and silver threads, while children in third world countries are starving to death.

Hi Grendel,

He is not starting in his late 50's like John Paul so I expect his term not to be that long. He is very bright, holds a few docterate degrees, speaks several languages including Latin, Greek and Hebrew and is an accomplished piano player. Say what you like about any of these popes but they sure don't pick simpletons for that job.

He has of late stated some contraversial opinions, mind you they were taken out of context. He has not spoke ex-cathedra on any issue. Be that as it may he may be expressing what he thinks the truth on some things which many never want to hear anyway. How many thumbs down on these lists to you often see when a reasonable or logical yet unpopular answer is given to a question.

I am happier with him than I thought I would be. He has mellowed a bit in his new office. Pope John Paul had such a nice velvet glove so to speak but always under it was an iron fist when it came to liberalization on things. This new pope is more of a straight shooter in my opinion. I like that sort of personality better since I know exactly how I stand with him with no false senses of security for big changes to doctrine.

I do not mind the Vatican having nice art, land or ceremonial robes. It is for everyone and not the pope's property. Those snivelling, hypocritical entertainers, actors and rock stars whining for the poor around the world are hardly selling everything, living in basement apartments and wearing sack cloth and ashes.
Bon Jovi of that U2 group goes to the doghouse too. When they raised entertainers taxes 5% to help pay for social services, they gum s hit her to the Netherlands, a new tax haven.

I am. He's very traditional, but the Church is for all,not just progressives or Americans. We had John-Paul II for twenty-five years; we need to preserve our long-term balance. Besides, most of the time i agree with him - often surprizing myself, you might say. I think he's a wonderful man. But he is the stern uncle type.

Give the guy a chance, he's got some pretty big shoes to fill.

Yes, even if he isn't traditional enough for my taste.
