The body stores fat in specific areas, underneath the skin of the stomach is one of the typical areas for men to have excess fat.

Sit ups are a good form of exercise for the stomach muscles and they will help you burn calories but it will not specifically target the fat that's under the skin.

The best remedy is a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Sure sit-ups work. But the boys need to find some motive other than instruction. Ask them if they enjoy cycling or maybe a sports. If the boys where to do at least 20 sit-ups a day they would obviously see improvement in at least 30 days. They really will want this for them self for it to work. It does take heart and determination to find improvements from simply working out. I prefer finding enjoyment from activities which help my cardiovascular or strength. Like snowboarding, rock climbing, and Mt. Biking.

me too! Depends on the person. I do lots of situps and still have a gut, but probably because I eat a lot of fast food.

Of all the advice I've read it seems to be a combination of your total fat and abdominal tone that leads to having or not having a gut.

So, the answer is, yes situps will help, but only if you lose weight too.

It is a common belief that exercising muscles in a particular area will reduce fat in that area. This is completely untrue.

Exercising your abdominal muscles will give you larger abdominal muscles, but it will not reduce abdominal fat any more than exercising your arms would.

If you want to lose weight, you need to increase your basal metabolic rate (how many calories you burn while resting). The way to do this is frequent aerobic exercise, such as running or swimming.

i prefer to do crunches which are like half sit-ups with your knees raised and do about 25 for 3 sets to start and then try crossing your right elbow to your left knee and then your left elbow to your right knee and do the same amount of reps and sets.do these only when you feel that you can advance without injuring yourself.good luck !!!
