It is a label that I take to mean you shouldn't dispose of it in your household trash. The questions are; 1) why not? 2) what else are you supposed to do with it?

To my understanding the PCB (printed circuit board) of most of the electronics is printed with the elements with high content of Lead.So is the material called solder used to join electronics with the PCB is full of Lead content.Most of the household trash is dumped in open pits or designated dumps for bio degradation.Rain washes away the lead content from these electronics material and is absorbed into the soil and is drained to the water resources like lakes where water comes from for our daily use.And as itself lead is considered a toxic element causing hell lot of problems to human and animal health.This is the only reason.Electronics disposed at right place is recycled for the lead and other material.

not knowing what it is;
if it has batteries, lead solder, fiberglass, gold, etc. the landfill isn't the place for it.
Take it to your local dump. They have a special box for computers and consumer electronics, I just disposed of a couple printers that way.
