Hey girl, No, its not weird or anything, but wouldn't a bride-to-be want to enjoy the whole wedding experience of buying her own dress? And trying on different types. And falling in love with the perfect dress? Unless she can't possibly afford it then I would say its ok. Whatever makes her happy because she will have to live with the decision. Take care

I think it's a great idea.
Traditionally the vast majority of women had better sense than to waste all that money on a dress they're only going to wear once anyway. They just wore their best dress or bought a more formal and sensible one that they could wear on other occastions.
The wedding industry has become a racket and has managed to convince a lot of people that they can't get married without blowing a small fortune.
Instead of blowing thousands of dollars on a garish dress, the couple should take the money thay save and spend it to upgrade to first class air fare or a better hotel for their honeymoon, or buy something both of them can use and cherish together for a long time.

I think it's a beautiful gift from your sister if she offered the dress to you. If you like it, I would definitely accept. Most people do buy their own, but wearing hers would be a wonderful reflection of how close you two are. After all, you are supposed to wear "something borrowed."
However, for most people, their wedding dresses are very personal, and they would not consider allowing anyone else, other than their own daughter, to wear the dress. So if she hasn't offered, don't assume she will let you wear it.

That is up to the individual. You really have to like your sisters wedding dress. If you don't then just go out a buy your own. Hopefully, this is a once in a lifetime event and you should be totally happy. Your sister would certainly understand.

Most people go and buy their own but I don't see a problem with a used dress.
I am borrowing my dress from a friend who got married last year. What's the point in spending hundreds on a dress that will only be worn for a few hours if you don't have to? My "dress" is costing me $50 for alterations and it's gorgeous.
think about it this way, that "new" dress you bought from the shop has been tried on hundreds of times...what's one more wearing?

Most people do go out and buy their own, but if your sister's dress fits, you like it, and she is willing to loan it to you for your big day, I say go ahead and wear it! Wedding dresses are relatively expensive and by wearing her's you'll definitely save quite a bit of money.

A lot of people wear a "family" dress at their wedding. Traditionally, brides have worn their mother's dress or even their grandmother's dress. If the dress fits, and looks good, it could be a good bonding moment for sisters.
One tip- if you need to alter the dress, check with the sister first.

There's nothing wrong with that. My mother wore her cousin's wedding dress. But if you want a new wedding dress, that's fine too. Wear the wedding dress YOU want to wear.

its not weird or at least i dont think its weird. if you like the dress and it fits wear it. i know people that had borrowed dresses because on a super tight budget or whatever may be the case. look at it this way you have more to spend on something else. i wouldnt think its wrong. dont be forced to wear it either. get what you want or do what you want. the day is yours.
