I dont want to say Goth, because I hate labels. My pastor scolded me for wearing dark clothes saying the The Darkness isnt compatable with the light, or God. He sayed something like that. It really hurted me. Why cant I be myself, and love the God I trust? Why?

You can dress however you want and God still loves you. It is what you have in your heart that matters. Only you know what your intent behind you choice of clothing is, if you even have one. God knows your heart.

I am a Christian, and I wear lots of black, have 8 piercings, and love going to cemeteries. If I were you, I would have a talk with the pastor about why your outside appearance matters so much to him, because it really shouldn't. God loves you for whats on the inside, not what you look like.

Check out this website, its really informative.

As with everything else we do, we are represetations of our father God. Our clothes suppose to be used as a way for people to see Christ in us like our actions. The only thing I can recall the bible says about our attaire is that woman should dress like females and men to dress as males. But that can be interpreted differently across culture lines. What we should like to wear are clothes that God would not be upset about. I had this issue because in my church woman are not allowed to wear pants but I though there are some pants we have that men should never wear. Also being in the military, we women soldiers wear pants all the time. I think if your clothing is respectful to the kingdom of God and shows you are a child of God then it should be okay. BUT, the Bible also wants us to obey those in rule over you so, if you do not agree with the rules of your pastor, then its time to become a member of a different church. But discuss this a little further with your pastor and ask him for Biblical verses that tell you that your clothing is wrong, not for his personal opinion.

I believe your pastor is reading too much into your attire. He suspects that since you wear dark clothing, that you are likely into drugs and other "evil" behaviors.

There is nothing wrong with dark clothes (or even a Goth look) from a religious standpoint. Perhaps you could discuss with him the value of not making judgments; how light and dark are metaphors, not physical attributes of good and evil.

Hmmmm. Sounds like your Pastor has his priorities mixed up. Clothes shouldn't define a person's love for God. Their heart should. And it's not your pastor's place to judge nor condemn you. I'm sorry his words hurt you. Perhaps it's time to look for another church. If his views of your clothes are negative I'd hate to think what he might say to you if he doesn't agree with your religious beliefs.

Dont Buy into the leagalism of religion, Jesus came to free us from that. Salvation is not based on what you do or dont do, but whether you believe Jesus for salvation called Grace. At the point of Grace in a believers life The Holy Spirit then becomes our true Pastor. One plants (like a pastor of a church), one waters ( like our believing), but it is GOD who gives the increase. You church pastor actually work for you appointed by Jesus, but they themselves are far from perfect so dont blame him for believing he knows. Be yourself and know that if you truely love The Lord it is the word of the Holy Spirit and that God loved you first with an everlasting love regardless of what you wear!

I think as long as you do not "over do" the whole black thing...then you should be fine. As long as you still act like a respectable Christain...I doubt that anyone will say anything. Your pastor might have just been concerned that you were starting to wonder off and away from God. You might want to talk to him about this!!!

Well then you need to get yourself a new pastor..... God loves you and you aren't being "un-christian" by wearing dark clothes. That is just silly and ignorant. You tell your pastor that God is loving and that he needs to stop judging people by thier appearance. He is giving Christians a bad name.

Its extremists that make people leave the Christian religion. I'm a church going girl, I was raised catholic. I was always told that it is whats in your heart that counts. As Christians, we are called to try to be as Jesus was. Would he pass judgement as your pastor did? It doesn't matter if your body is covered in tattoos, or you have your eyebrow pierced, God will love you, and being a good person is what is going to get you to heaven.

what you wear or look like will not get you into heaven. I don't think that God ever said we had to wear a certain thing. Sometimes people get in high positions and just make it hard for others sometimes b/c they want things done a certain way. Serve God for yourself and if you want to wear dark clothes I think he'll understand.

That's just nuts. You should find a new church.

Some of our greatest saints of history have been very "dark."

I actually love the term Goth. I think Catholics are the original Goth subculture. Memento Mori. Remember Death.

There are entire societies of Goth Christians out there. Both Catholic and Protestant.
