No, he didn't rise and write it. It could have been Joshua who took the writings of Moses and added that to the story. Some of the fist 5 books of the Bible have obviously had a redactor go through them and add notes so that the people who were reading them hundreds of years after they were written could understand them better.

You find sentences that say something like "and so it is until this day" and things like that in various books of the OT.
