$573 Million is a drop in the bucket when you've been mooching off your believers for 2000 years.
Does anyone actually believe that the Catholic Church is going to prevent kids from being abused in the future?
Seems more like hush money to me.

Fr Joseph - Just keep it in your pants and keep your hands where I can see them.

No I don't believe the Catholic Church will stop some priests from molesting the children. I think until they change the policies regarding marriages the molestations will continue.

Their souls. There is nothing the Church can do to prevent this in the future as each incident is seen as an individual incident. That's like adding more police in hopes of there never being crime again. It's always going to be -- just hopefully not as often if observed more now that more and more people are coming out with the truth. The hush money is just pocket change so that isn't even a factor.

They won't sell any gold - they don't have to as their pockets probably run deeper than any other sect of christianity.

Kids are being abused in all sects and it's a shame that their money and so called status seems to protect them from the laws. If it was any regular joe they'd be calling for his head and getting the lynch squad ready.

the Rcc can prevent it no more then parents can prevent it, other denominations can prevent it and unfortunately, we can prevent it. unless we all take a stand against pedophiles from every walk of life - ther eis nothing that will prevent the perverts from harming our children.

it amazes me that people thing being chaste is a sign of peduphilia.... this is a sad state of midunderstanding. why not look at the reality that there are many married people who have abused children, many sexually active people who have abused children.

I am in total agreeance - although you won't get a lot of support from the good folk on YA for this school of thought. I aksed a question along the same lines recently and the answers were pretty sad!

That's all it is Hush Money. All those priests that abused children should have been put in jail. I am a Catholic and very ashamed and disappointed in the Church.

Would you care to explain to me why there are so many pedophiles that are married men and women?

Lay off the priests.

I don't think they CAN prevent kids from being abused in the future, as long as priests are expected to remain chaste. Denying yourself sex when it should be a normal healthy part of your life can make some people do messed up things, including abuse children.

It is sad that you are so full of hate for Christ's Church. I will pray that the Lord have mercy on you.

In Christ
Fr. Joseph

For those who blame celibacy for the abusive priests. Why is it that Catholic priests have the lowest incidence of this crime of any clergy? It would seem that logic would dictate that the vow of celibacy has deterred this crime rather than added to it.

The Catholic church and all who are Catholic needs to get born again ( saved) before the Lord returns while they have time. They are letting the pope led their soul right to the pits of Hell.
