After my puppy recovers from parvo is there anything I can use to kill the virus where he has had an accident on my carpet without bleaching the color out of the carpet it is brand new? How often do I need to disinfect my property before it is considered safe for him? Does color safe bleach kill the virus as well as regular bleach?

You can't disinfect a non-porous surface like dirt in the yard. You can try soaking the carpeted area in Parvosol (you might have to get some from the vet), but carpets are porous surfaces as well. Your puppy will continue to shed the virus for up to a month, but he won't contract parvo again.

Your puppy can have a relapse after he recovers, but cannot catch the Parvo again.
Parvo can live in your yard or carpet for up to a year. Just don't bring an unvaccinated dog over to your house.

When our puppy died from Parvo in 1983 they told us not to get another dog for at least 5 years. Things may have changed since then, but check with a vet's office for an idea.

After my dogs had the virus many years ago, the vet told us that the virus dies in about 6 months on its own. However, any one at anytime can track it into your home "even yourself" because it can get on your shoes. So always keep the parvo shots up to date.

Your puppy can't get parvo again from your carpet, however, if you're wanting another puppy then you have to wait 4-5 years before having one in your current home, because even if you disinfect your whole house, you can't disinfect your yard.

I would call up a carpet place in your area and ask them for recommendations, they do have carpet shampoo and sprays and stuff that are anti bacterial. But What I have in my area is probably different than your area so call up a carpet place, not home depot a place that specializes in carpet and ask for their recommendations
