So I just got blood taken out for a blood test.
They took it out of my wrist and now my wrist is sore...
I have never gotten blood drawn out of my wrist before.
But when it was drawn out of the inside of the elbow.. I have been fine.
Help?

It should heal within a day or two. If not, return to your doctor and let them check it. My husband has his blood drawn thru the wrist every month before an IV infusion. It usually heals within a few days.

If you are in a great deal of pain, take some ibuprofen, and put an ice pack on the site every 15 minutes.

Normally when blood is taken from your wrist it is for an ABG or Arterial Blood Gas test. This test is performed to make sure your lungs are working normally. It measures the levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and pH levels in your blood. It is sometimes used to check to see if your kidneys are functioning properly as well.

The test can be performed on other parts of your body but normally the wirst is preferred It is a bit more painful due to the location of the artery.

As mentioned it should heal with in a few days. If it remains sore or swells ice will help. If you notice any unusual redness or discharge or it remains painful for more than a few day please contact your physician.

Hope you feel better soon
